besides a few people who have easy finance on here, this would probably more be aimed at the younger (more desperate) owners on the board,

how did you get the finance up to afford your cars? anything interesting? prostitution? theft? work? grandparent's estate?

Me personally? I worked saving hardcore (ie: not buying ANYTHING) working at coles scanning groceries and picking up any extra shifts i could in any dept. that had openings... i even worked at like 4 different stores at one stage trying to scoop up extra work!

Then on the side (cos coles just ain't quite enough) i was importing brand name deadstock clothing (RL, Burberry, CK, lacoste) etc at below cost price (being deadstock) then selling it undercutting store prices by about 25%... quite a good entrprenureal excersize but towards the end the demand overwhelmed the supply and i had to stop...

i was also snatching up fitness equipment on verge collection days, sanding it, spraying it matt black, then selling it on the quokka...

quite cheeky things really... what did you guys do?

I had a prelude before that and was written off by some coppers and then decided to get a cefiro. Got paid out a fair bit more than i should. i.e 7k then saved up another 5k at my IT geeky job. (whihc means sitting at werk looking for pron and talking to my mates for 3 hours a day and getting paid 24 bux an hour).

Getting into my new job soon and will be paid a bit more.. Say 20k more a year to do the same thing.. :D

how on earth did cops write off a prelude and why such a large payout?

Was on my way back form a RAVE at 7am and peaking my nutz off.. Was at a set of light on red when suddenly bam the car went 20 metres forward. A copper had hit me from behind (yes i liked it boyz :D) because he was chasing some stolen car. The car was only valued at 4.5 k but i maged to get a mate who does quotes to bump it up a few notches. I didnt take long to get paid out either.. like 1 week.

Here are pics of it.

Only time a copper did something good to my car.

credit carded my cefiro...

fu(king dumbest decision i've ever made in my whole life... (especially when i had access to more than $35k after i sold my gtr..)

bank was giving me the shit when i was getting the loan, so i walked out and just credit carded the whole amount...

still paying it off.. have three jobs atm.. working mere 80hrs/wk compared to 110-120hrs/wk when i was saving up for the gtr..

Far out hey.

*please dont pay me out*

But I saved up a fair bit, then some bad luck I lost about 1-2k of that while I was waiting for my car to arrive. I had already bought the stereo, so there was a bit of money in that.

My Parents were very kind and they extended their home loan so I could get my car (and they could get their aircon, and a few other things :))

Im now paying back the loan at home loan interest rates.

But this is the clever bit, helps me out by me getting cheap interest, and it helps them out because they in turn have more money coming in, as my payments added with theirs is a fair bit more (ie almost double) the minium monthly repayments, so we are both happy.

ps, started off with $13k in december, now its on $8550.00. And I've also bought everything else I needed for the car, like tyres suspension etc, so add that in theres about $3k there, which would have been nice if it could have come off the loan.

Also as per the comment on the other thread. I AM on minium wage ;)

my cefiro was an easy buy, I had decent amounts left over from selling my minitruck and beemer.

Ever since I got my first car I have just kept saving about 25% of my wages in a savings account, then when it came to sell the current car, I'd use the sale money and then add a few grand on top so i could upgrade.... I went through an old skoo supra (first car), then a s13 silvia, then a lifted feroza, then a bagged rodeo then a 320i beemer and now the cefiro... I know the cef isn't quite the monetary upgrade from a bimmer (power wise - yes sur) but I am now trying to save for some property :)

I must have a short attention span or something :headspin:

I too seem to have a short attention span..........i can necer manage to hang on to a car for very long...........

I remember back when i was saving for my first car (suzuki sierra) i was doing masssive hours about 90-110 per week. You would THINK it would be good money right? Not an a first year apprentice wage. My biggest week was 111hrs and i only cleared $666!!!!!!

Took a while but i got there in the end...........only had it 9 mnths and replaced it........

i traded a very screwed ca18det silvia for my current ceff plus 3k, thought it was a good buy since the car was already here and i had it all checked, only ever had one prob with shonky cooler pipping. the silvia was also written off the day i handed over the rwc to change names so he got a payout, worked well for both of us.

My first job ever straight out of school was paying me $25 an hour, i hit the bank up for a loan after working there for 2 weeks, coz i had Always wanted a skyline & couldnt wait so i thought i'd apply for loan online & get a reply from the bank saying how long i need to hold my job down for first as a guide for me but they rang me up saying my loan was approved when i did it just as a test really & i was like what! Went skyline hunting right away, got my ride 2 - 3 weeks later i think.

Was getting good money in sydney for 18, i moved out of sydney tho & now i get a fair bit less... really shits me... i need more money to put into my car!!!! It's never enough!

I'll end back up in sydney with a much better pay again one day but the difference in pay will just be the cost of f#cking living in sydney again, dam expensive sh%t hole city. It's only good if your making big enough bucks.

lol, well i've worked since i was 16, then took out a loan to buy an NA silvia, extended it for an rb20det conversion and 18's, then with the laurel i extended a little bit more, sold my old commonwhore and now i have a laurel and a rb20det silvia/onevia, owe about 14k though but once the onevia is painted and sold i should be clean, which means, go crazy on the laurel time.

    • You are perhaps suggesting that it is not a super car? Well....it's not an AU.
    • Dropped the MX5 of this morning to get the hardtop colour matched and some PDR done, they are also going to give it a buff to remove some "stubborn" swirl marks and light scratches in the clear coat Over the last few months the poor little thing has copped some shopping centre car park abuse, I try to not park in them, but hitting Westfield's a few times over the last few months has taken its toll, nothing really bad, but enough of a trigger for a "while we're in there" thingie  Once it's back and all the one colour, with a few dents and mark's removed I'll give some of these products a go and see what they're like
    • A locally delivered Infiniti have remote start installed but don't come with the remote start key. You need a new remote start key and they just need it programed. And this is different to making/programing a new key that just starts the car.
    • Cheers, and cheers for sharing so much of the build and also sharing the glimpse of what turns out to bring a lot of us poor decision makers together haha.  I do recommend learning more about how to manage it, if not considering getting a  formal diagnosis.  The discussion with the psychiatrist I got my diagnosis through was quite eye opening, things I'd not even considered to be ADHD related and hadn't mentioned were things she asked about out of the blue and were common themes with people with my flavour of ADHD.   It's not a label for people who are hyperactive and ill-attentive, there's more to it than that and some of it can be much more challenging or damaging - though there are of course two sides to the thing, and a lot of the stuff we have to go through and work on to live with it make us effectively "better" at other things as well. Aside from the fact that there is some argument I could have a bit of ASD seasoning in there (came up during the diagnosis, and neurodiverse things seem to not stay as a cookie cut) I suspect you need to learn more about ADHD if you are puzzled about how hyperfocus could possibly apply.  I *do* personally use "superpower" with quotes deliberately, but it's 100% an ADHD thing due to the exact reason that lack of focus is also an ADHD thing... Loosely speaking the inattentive side of ADHD isn't the inability to focus, it's the inability to control where the focus goes.  Not being able to sleep because brain is more interested in thinking about a stupid thing I said to a girl I liked 30 years ago, not being able to focus on work because my brain is more keen on putting together the torque management strategy we're going to try out with a drag car next weekend, not being able to focus on a conversation with someone I WANT to listen to and respect because there is a flickering light in my peripheral vision.    If I could just stop work and build the torque management setup right there and then I'd not hear anything else until it was done.
