Hi all,

I'm very keen on fitting a HICAS lock kit to my car, and to be blunt, HICAS is giving me the shits. I have been told not to spend money on trying to fix HICAS as such, and instead, just fit the lock kit.

I have heard good stories about these lock kits, however are there any side effects? I ask this because there seems to be a little bit of confusion in regards to this.

I have heard the following:

- Steering becomes heavy.

- HICAS light is on constantly and needs the dash to be removed to remove the light.

Can anyone shed some light?

Cheers!

On my R32 GTR, the positives of fitting definately outweighed the negatives.

Positives:

* much more predictable on the track, particularly when powering out of a corner and the back steps out slightly. Previously the HICAS would try and second guess what is happening, which is compounded by the ATTESSA splitting torque.

* saved a significant amount of weight not just in the rear rack/solenoids, but in the engine bay as well.

* picked up some worn components on the tie rods at the time. This really "tightened" up the feel of the rear end.

* didn't have any probs with the light showing on the dash - mayby because this is the R32 hydraulic version?

Negatives:

* steering is slightly heavier at low speeds

* turning circle definately increases without HICAS

Cheers

I would like to say goodbye to my hicas. I have noticed the 'kit' (pipe with two bolts welded to the end) cost $350 (from UAS). I was thinking on making my own - but would prefer to buy one cheaply.

Is anyone making them - how much should I pay - since I have found UAS to be kinda expensive?

Skylinegeoff is your man.

$110 - doesn't get cheaper unless you wanna make it yourself.

or if u buy from nengun which are around the 150 mark, just a question on removing the hicas on an r33 gts-t altogether as in not only the lock kit, but removing the whole system, how much of a job is it to get done, and roughly how much weight will this save?

cheers...ben.

hey ben,

it's pretty easy mate :P took me about 40 min, and that included doing a wheel alignment afterwards!

saves about 4 kg from memory, i posted it somewhere.

my steering is heavier at low speeds though. you can snip a wire to disable the light.

Cheers
