Kel, i totally agree, and dont drive anything that is not covered with third party, thats fair enough, because third party is cheap anyway! worst case is around 700 bucks so u cant go wrong for the amount it covers ie if u smash into a 300 grand car, or say Duncan's 350zed :P

its just comprehensive that i have second thoughts about.

Sorry to hear about it btw. i would be annoyed since its a new unsmashed car until now!

Sorry about the Z

Full Comp is the way to go, I was parked in the city on Friday and a woman decided she couldnt see a grey Skyline. She is not insured and so i just claimed through my insurance and let them chase the money out of her.

I would rather pay $1 or 2k a year than 2k up if i smash.

Depending on which state you are in and which policy you have, third party won't save you in an at fault crash if you crash into something expensive as it doesn't cover third party property damage (or if it does, it is capped at something very low), it only covers damage to the other (injured) party (ie. damage to their person).

LW.

meh we broke a drive shaft in the datto yesterday, thanks to the magic of a welded diff at least it still moves.

BTW there are 2 types of "third party" insurance.

The compulsary Third Party you get with rego covers *you* for nothing, it provides some cover anyone you injure

Third Party Insurance covers any car or property you damage in an accident. IMHO this is the minimum everyone should have. Some policies also cover your own car for up to $5k if it is stolen or burned out.

Oops. Dincan, I stuffed your pole mate... sorry. I voted in the No, I won't crash section but should have gone with "yes I pay through the nose for insurance" section. Can't change my vote either :)

Very sorry to hear about the Z. Never would have happend in a skyline though...

correct, the skyline would have been thru a couple of minutes earlier :P

tbeffect, you are dead right, insurance is a gamble stacked against you, the insurance companies make their profit somewhere.

but...like a lot of gambles, its not just the chance of losing, its whether you can afford to lose no matter how small the chance....

Yep full comp for me!! At 19 and going from a 1600cc 1976 Chrysler Lancer to my GTSt, i figure there is a chance (although i am sensible and IMO a good driver) that i will have an accident.

Good thing is though having always had insurance in my name (3rd Party) from when i first bought my car when i was 16 i had 30% NCB, combine that with living in the country the cost for me is a relatively low $2600

Plus too many old country blokes in hats driving expensive volvo's likely to get in my way!!

Fully comprehensive all the way!

It is not worth the risk, especially since i only pay just under $100 each month through Shannons.

Was with Just Cars, but they would no longer insure me fully comp. with my new paint job (althought they were fine with all the engine mods) so they got the flick.

I was paying $2,4 a year with shannons until I had prang, they then jumpped it up to 3,5 so spat the dummy and told them where to put there insurance. Then went with classic I think, and now I pay like 1,7.

thanks

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
