Id like to ad that shannons would not insure me and would not give me a reason. I am rating 1 with no claims in the last 5 years and had my licence for 6 years. So go figure.

I had a speeding ticket back in 2001 thats my entire driving history.

Up shannons..... Bugger them.....

Called GIO and they quoted me $7500 for an 99 MX5 10th ann. edition! Even a standard MX5 was the same! Maybe just their way of saying "get lost" cause I didn't even pay that much when I had my GTR (then I was under 24 with a WAY more higher risk car and a few bingles here and there).

I'm getting an R33 GTS-T soon and have been quoted $1590 full comp with Just Car Insurance, I thought that was a pretty damn good price. Especially compared to what RACQ, Suncorp and the likes were quoting... they wanted something like $4500. :D

LOL, i wish i was never going to crash, but thats just not an option unless you dont drive these days. Been lookin into insurance as i want to get full comp although know i will have a hard time getting anywhere with some of the insurnace companys due to my age and type of car. And there is no way in hell im paying over $1200 for insurance, it doesn't even cost me that for my bikes :P

Well there is only 2 things you can do guys...

1. Grow up (not having a go at any of you, i was refering to age and maby driving history)

or

2. Get a common car

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that cracks me up.

Coming from you at the ripe old age of 22 and extremly mature.

It doesn't matter till your 25 and by then you have waited so long the last couple of years that all you want to do it goof off.

Please explain what a COMMON CAR is???

R32 GTST 4 dr stock except exhaust and hks springs. I am 24/male, garaged all the time, not a daily driver.

Best I got was $1800 from famouscarinsurance. With a lifetime maximum NCB. Plus a rather large excess. So I just got Third Party Property, fire and theft at just cars for $800ish.

I'll see how I go when I get to 25

As for growing up comment, I think a better solution is to not allow people under 24 to drive performance cars, that would make less accidents, and better prices for us (note: I am teasing you guys :D Don't take my bait! )

can't insure it? can't afford the car.

I recon you will get a few reply's with that comment sisgsputnik.

I bought my R32 GTS-t for $6500 and that was on the road, and they want more to insure that than my $16k bike that i can do more on, go faster and at the end of the day injure/hurt/harm just as many people if not more.

They charge what they want as they know they can get away with it.

As for not being able to afford insurance, in most peoples case you will find its not a matter of not being able to afford it, its a matter of paying a third or half of the purchase price of the car in the first place just for cover!!!

grand read my post again....

Some of those quote must reflect either age or driving history. I have a good driving history and have insured a S2 33 with Just car with all minor mods and a few major mods (243rwkw now) and it cost me $1300 a year (insured for 29k)....

So if the rate is high you got to ask why????

1. Mods

2. Address of garage

3. Age

4. Driving History

5. Male or Female

6. Type of car

7. Financed or Owned

8. Cost of repair

These are the things that reflect your policy cost....

wow, this thread may be rather dead but 11% of the SAU voters are either arrogant idiots or wealthy enough to pay for a written off Carrera GT/Bentley/similiar (considering they don't even have 3rd Party Prop Damage).. something to note! Hope that's no reflection of the rest of Aust's car owners/drivers. :

I got Full Comprehensive....I got a quote for TP+ F&T but theres no real point because if the $24k car get stolen they only pay out $5k. With fully comp its insured for the full $24k

I spose TP + F&T is good if you have a little A-to-B car, but not with the skyline thanks :uh-huh:

I was suprised to only pay $2200 for fully comp from Just Car. History included no claims, but I have lost my licence once and its a twin turbo jap import so $2200 is ***n awesome I say....although it has a lot to do with the postcode it will be parked at as well

a claim excess for me is $1900

Interesting read this.. seeing the range of insurance..

As of yesterday, I have a quote for fully comp with justcars for my new car (picking it up tomorrow.. come on baby..) - '98 R33 gtst - valued @ $21,000

me - 22, never had insurance EVER in my life and they gave me a rating 2 because i've never had an incident and had my license for 4 years..

$2,010/year premium fully comp and basic mods (currently exhaust and factory sunroof)..

Interestingly enough in case people are wondering, they have a bracket in which your car fits, that bracket e.g. for mine was $19,500 - $23,500 (which is estimated street value if they sold your car) - now if you say you purchased it for $19,500 it will cost you the same to insure it for $23,500.. so if you are getting insurance, see if you can ask what the bracket is and push the value up a bit, your premium shouldn't change..

As for the fully comp vs. third party..

My g/f's car was written off in our carpark by a maniac (belive me he was - police had to arrest him) after he went a bit crazy and reversed down our apartment drive into her car + 2 others.. she only had 3rd party..

this happened in oct/nov last year - to date.. she currently has $0 back from it. he has been let off, we've had to take the insurance agent (NRMA) to court because it's your responsibility to chase it up if you don't have comprehensive, and they refuse to pay the bills for solicitor which are >$10k..

so believe me, if there is 1 thing you have - it's comprehensive insurance.. it's not worth the trouble.. and it's not for when you hit something.. it's for when someone hits you.. or your car gets stolen..

anyways.. my thoughts.. and I don't trust half the drivers out there..

The funny thing is claiming when your car has been stolen, they've caught the guy and have a confession...you still get grilled like a criminal even after handing over many thousands over the past few years.

My car has been at the assessors for 8 working days, still no answer on if it's repairable or not...and I know for a fact that it's been quoted by about 5 parties so far!

Haha no chance in hell, wait for the bit where they ask you to supply the receipt for the cost of your car, receipt for you immobiliser, receipt and contact of who services your car, current photograph of your car etc etc it goes on!

Then they ask if your car *really* had windows, and why were your personalised plates removed (it was a stolen car duh!) am I sure it didn't have 4 space savers on it the night before it was taken!!!

    • It was roughly 3.5 hours.    car went in around 11:00 and I was done around 2:30 He did the initial runs, install the BC and then Nistune install and tune.  The best part was sitting in the lobby and hearing the skyline on full throttle at the dyno 😂😂
    • Glad it all went smooth. How long did the tuning process take?
    • Yeah that was kind of the same feedback my tuner gave me.  the boost tee is until I can sort out my plan for the electronic boost controller and what I’d get, where I’d mount the dash etc.  I’m happy with this until I can figure it out. Not a big fan of the A-pillar gauges. I’d like to get a clean install of the boost gauge - something digital like GFB.  Something like that might fit neatly where the ashtray is and look clean. I feel like replacing the OEM triple gauge is a bit extreme for a weekender like my skyline. And it’s not making crazy power to need all the additional sensors/gauges.
    • I'm about to swap my box to Tremec T56 Magnum F & initially thinking of re-using my DCS twin plate (can get it re centred for the bigger spline) but it's been called out the box will be noisy (rattle) as the clutch is unsprung.  So I'm doing as much research as possible. I'm not so worried about holding the power as I'll go the track version which on paper will hold the maybe 1000hp I make. It's the longevity I worry about. DCS told me they don't use a sprung centre as it's just something that can break. The uni clutch has a very complicated sprung centre. Any one had or heard about any issues with it failing? Thanks in advance.
    • Auto is at least 10% (from my real, actual experience with different torque converters and manual on the same setup) ~185rwkw at 11.6psi (peak!) is entirely what one would expect without a FMIC or anything else on the intake, it does bleed off towards the higher RPM so it's what, 9psi there? Note: There is nothing that can be done about this with a manual boost tee. If you want to hold it steady and gain more top end, well - You will need electronic boost control.....
