NSW are now allowing P-Platers to drive Turbocharged cars.

NSW is set to overturn a ban preventing P-platers from driving the latest turbocharged fuel efficient vehicles.

Provisional drivers in NSW will be subject to fairer vehicle guidelines from next year, with the state government due to adopt a national framework that better reflects vehicle performance.

Under changes to be rolled out as early as January, a contentious blanket ban on turbocharged and supercharged vehicles will be replaced by a formula that calculates the power-to-weight ratio of a car with a limit of 130kW/tonne, opening up a plethora of low-powered vehicles for P-platers that use turbo-chargers to save fuel

Yeah not sure. Each state as their own road laws so it wouldn't suprise me that it's at a state level.I wonder if it is for new cars using that formula or if it'll be for older cars as well.

I wonder if that would include something like an XT Forester. I was driving one on my P's and legally should not have been, but never got a second look by police.

It raises an interesting point though. The XT engine etc. is the same as the WRX's and in some cases bigger displacement and turbo depending on the year of WRX.

I always wonder why driver education is not taught in school prior to being of age for a licence.

In the US they have driver ed in schools, have done for a very long time. It used to include a trip to hospital to visit people seriously injured in car accidents etc. as well as driver training.

I always wondered that too cause I think that'd be an awesome idea.

my school did that.

Without subsidies on offer, these programs are only ever attended by INTELLIGENT members of the driving community - which unfortunately make up such a ridiculously small percentage of the 'problem' drivers, since those drivers are simply complete morons haha

Some had bits of skin and hair

flamin mongrel!!! It certainly idles and revs over 2500rpm but I haven't driven it yet...

and actually no. Despite the fact my bonnet is currently open and has been all day, I've only been fiddling in the boot and mostly the passengers footwell. :) was under Rosie's Bonnet though.
