hey well since i dont know a lot about engines lets hope u people do!. I don have the car yet i will as soon as i find one i want to buy but im just getting a list of changes i want to do to my car

Questions:1 how may kw's at the wheels are skylins standard?

2 I am interested in gaining more power with a series 2 r33 type m without spending a lot of money so waht can people recommend i will already have an exhaust sytem so whats after that?. I have been told that i shouldnt really change the boost setting because it can screw a lot of things up if not done right.

so what else can i do without touching the boost?

The reason i ask is that im spending a lot of money on buying the car and insurance so i wont have a lot left over , but my mate has a evo 8 so as soon as i get my skyline he wants to prove the evo is better. I know i prob have no chance at beating the evo esp standard so i dont want to get killed i dont mind getting beatin just not by a lot lol thanks for anyones help.

so any engine mods that people can let me know off that are a good way to gain power and dont cost me the price of buying a new house lol let me know thanks

PLEASE, do not get into a war with your mate over whose car is fastest / best / most powerful / best handler / best stopper. It is not worth your, or worse, someone else's, life.

If you must, make sure you take it off-street, ie racetrack.

Ouch if you want to prove your R33 is beter than an Evo 8 you better go get a loan.

To be fair if you get a front mount intercooler, have full exhaust (alot of imports only have cat back) and an aftermarket computer (Power FC is nice) you should be making 180 kwatw on standard boost. Your looking at about $4000-$5000 to get that done including some time on the dyno to get the tune done nice. Your still going to lag behind your friends evo but you won't be miles behind (straight line that is add corners into equation and he has you).

If you want more then think about new turbo and boost controller and with stock internals you might make 250 kwatw without too much problem running decent boost. This should give you enough power (if you sort out wheel spin) to keep up and driven well beat a stock evo. Around $6000 would get most of this done.

If you want more then you need to think about doing up the internals. Also by doing this your going to find that your standard brakes, suspension and clutch will be sub par. Btw rather than racing on the street just get some of these mods done and go to a dyno day ... you will more than likely put out more power and thats sort of like winning :-)

yeah im not going to go racing him around the streets im not that stupid but he does have like 4k of open road at his house so i just muck around with him there. the good thing is about 2k of that is bitchamin (dont know how to spell it lol) becasue with his family business they need road trains to get from one end of the property to the other. I will have around 4k left over so i can do some little stuff then. yeah i know it wont be better but i didnt want to get completly nailed by him but thanks for the help neways

    • Not too sure just yet, want to have a go at doing what I can myself, but to start with want someone to cast their eye over it tell me what needs doing to get it running and back on the road, so anyone with great overall knowledge would be ideal.
    • I personally would go with cutting out the rubber. Then deal with getting sleeve off separately. Rubber can be painful to cut, it loves to jam up cutting tools. I normally have success with drill bits, deburr bits, angle grinders, jigsaw, reciprocating saw, and never forget... fire. Obviously different tools won't work in all locations you're trying to work with, and you need to be comfortable with each. You personally may be happy slowly slicing it out with a razor blade, if you are, go for it with one too! Feel free to wait for others to weigh in also on their thoughts.
    • So ... I got everything disconnected and started dropping the frame. Three of the four mounts started to come down but the fourth one (the one with the nut that gave me all the trouble) won't budge. The inner metal sleeve stays up tight against the chassis rail although the outer part of the mount drops a bit (and can be levered quite a lot more) but it's just stretching the rubber bushing. So I reckon there's some serious corrosion inside the inner sleeve and holding it tight to the lug at the top of the bolt. Tried everything I can think of so far: penetrating oil, whacking the top of the sleeve to vibrate it and wedge a screwdriver blade in there. I also tried to turn the inner sleeve a bit by hitting it with a chisel at the bottom. It's stuck solid. What do you think about cutting the rubber with a blade so I can drop the subframe around it anyway. Then worry about getting the inner sleeve off after? Will that work? Is it gonna give me even more problems?
    • Steam valve seals are usually responsible for cold start smoke, it goes away once engine warmed up. Disconnect it let engine breathers and let it breath freely, see if problem goes away after a short drive. Also check to make sure engine oil drain pipe is not blocked or kinked.
    • Haha thanks! Yea I'm moving over from 2x 1000cc jets pre throttle over to 6x 190cc direct port jets and 1x 500cc pre throttle jet.  Direct port comes with all the advantages you would expect, except that pre throttle does cool down IAT'S more. That's why my direct port nozzle placement is closest to the plenum as possible in the runners to allow the air more time to cool before being sucked in. I'm also putting that one 500cc pre throttle jet to help with more cooling. It's a hybrid system. There's a lot more advantages to moving over to a PWM solenoid with a constant pressure system vs my old PWM pump setup, but I'll get more into that once I'm done converting everything over. The ricer in me is excited to see SS tubing all over my manifold though!
