Need to mount the turbo timer...

Heya guys...got the baby turbo timer hanging up under the steering wheel atm.

I want to mount it to the dash...but the cables are short, so it can really only go to the left of the dash near the steering wheel.

Anyone have any suggestions on what i could use???

You have to connect wires to the turbo timer that enable the engine to run without the key being in the ignition. :thumbdwn:

After the timer switches off you're no worse off though I assume. (not that anyone stands around to watch the timer - but still, it only runs for say 60 seconds)

sk - ur right but nearly all of the current TT's has the handbrake and speed sensors as backup...

shuts off when handbrake goes down, or car moves away with handbrake on (while counting down)

also its quite easy to connect the alarm so that it can arm while tt is counting down...

heiress - you just have to lengthen the wires, if you aren't good with the soldering iron buy a few packets of them wire joiners that you just crimp onto.

Personally I think you are much worse off. Firstly you have made the wires very easy to get to, just find the turbo timer and it's ready for a quick hot wire. Secondly you have identified the right wires for the thief to use, otherwise he would have to search through the wiring harness for the correct ones.

Both the handbrake and speed sensor are conected to the TT, when the thief hot wires it he obviously removes the handbrake and speedo connections. So that is no barrier.

The alarm can not cut ignition/fuel while the TT is running, if you program a built in delay into the ignition/fuel cut your car will be 2 suburbs away by the time the alarm stops it. Plenty of time in a nice quiet place to disconnect the alarm.

Regardless, you are cooling down the turbo, and even that is debateable, but what about the brakes gearbox, diff etc. Much better to do another lap of the block and cool the whole lot down with airflow.

if an educated theif really wants your car then they will take it regardless.....

and having a tt will make it that much easier.....

having a tt is indeed convenient but like most things there are its drawbacks..

While I dont have a Baby turbo timer, i have the Apexi one, they did a really good job of running the wire through the pillar and mounting it right up the top right hand corner.

If u can get that done somehow then ur set. Everyone who has sat in my car has difficulty in finding the timer. If the sun shade is down, then there is no way to see the controller. There is hardly any wire visible because its all in the pillar and it spreads the gadgets out instead of having everything near ur knee or console.

Are TT's illegal in your state? If so -- and you insist on having one -- then mount it somewhere that isn't obvious and/or in plain sight.

I had to get a car started the other day that had been broken into, but the theif was to dumb to steal it - it appeared that he had watched to many mcguiver movies. Sparking wires together does nothing except blow fuses

But yeah a turbo timer puts the ignition wires under the theifs nose.. All he needs then is another mug under the bonnet to short the starter and bang... They are off faster then grannys knickers.

Reading into this ... a theif simply needs to take a tt with him/her to plug up to your existing loom... in fact a modded tt just for that purpose .. scary! :confused:

a good tubo timer wont work without the handbrake wire connected.....hks type 1. other than that....i have one and barely use it ....abit of a wank!

yogi, as far as I am aware, the handbrake on most cars only earths out the Handbrake dash light, so all you would have to do is run an earth to that wire... no biggy.

the car i bought has a tt connected atm, i will be removing the ignition wire asap, makes things a lot easier for a thief, it looks like its drilled in though, so i guess ill have to leave the actual unit there..

From what i've seen the past (work)- easiest way to steal a nissan is to break their ignition barrels.

Anyway, I have the apexi pen type that was installed low right where you could not see the display and found that there was just enough cable to put it more to the centre of the car after lowering the steering wheel etc.

The AFR's are now within sight. Another wank ?? ...... Perhaps.

Personally I reckon a turbo timer = a waste of time and money.

They have debatable benefits (how hard do you drive your car on the street while looking for a parking spot? If your driving that hard, take the whole car for a lap of the block to cool down), make your car a greater theft risk (at the very least, makes ignition wiring dead obvious), and are illegal in most (all?) states.

Edit: I should also say, they probably void your insurance too.

But as I said, its your car, do as you like.
