Finally got my car back!

R31 GTS-R RB20 eccs red top. Only mods are Autronic ECU, exhaust and pod.

185rwkw. Was over 220kw but injectors and pump were begging for mercy.

Looks like GTR injectors are the way to go.

Boost ramps to 18psi just over 4,000 and then settles at 14psi 4800 onwards.

They say an EBC will get me a more stable boost curve.

Nice power.

What turbo is that running? Std. Actuator? If so do the Joel bodgy mod and redrill your actuator bracket holes to put pretension on the wastegate that reduces the travel of the wastegate.

It takes a little bit of fiddling to get the right pretension/boost but its a free mod and works 100% :)

Then you use the bleeder to help bring boost up in the mid range.

I'm suprised the 18psi spike didn't really show up on the dyno graph, unless it was richened up and or timing pulled out to prevent detonation at that point which would drop the power/tractive effort curve back in line.

Turbo is standard GTS-R issue, Internal gated T04E. It has a nissan turbine flange though which is very restictive.

The type where looking at the back of turbo with dump removed you cant see the wastegate as its all covered up. This is planned to be fixed with next stage of mods.

In regards to not noticing the 18psi spike in the power curve, you are right, it was at 10:1 at that point, and gets leaner from then on.

Not sure on the timing issue though.

What approx. power will the GTR injectors support on an RB20? I know I have to upgrade mine but I want to make sure the GTR items are enough as I dont want to buy more again later.

My aim is to have 220 -240rwkw.

The R31 forum have booked Heathcote for the 14th of this month so I will report on what time I can produce.

Unfortunately, the R31 has a very very bad IRS setup and reduces traction a hell of a lot.

I have an anti-lag button for launching but its useless as well as its just a whole heap of damn wheelspin, but sounds f@cking awesome.

I actually move the actuator backwards towards the radiator (elongated holes) so it is further away from the wastegate.. Essentially reducing the total amount the wastegate can open when the actuator is fully extended.

Maybe your S14 actuator is setup different to the RB's.

If I were to use washers and studs it would space the actuator towards the passenger side strut?

Any chance of a pic of what you have done? I can't see how washers will make a difference on the RB's.

Wow I thought the actuator setups woulda been the same? But yeah by putting washers between the actuator bracket, and the turbo itself, it put alot more pretention on the spring. :)

I dont have pics, and i CBF removing the AFM/Turbo hot pipe to get one either haha

well, over the weekend things didn't go quite to plan with the dump pipe

Upon removal of my current setup, I found that the two dumps I had, had a differant flange on the exhaust housing of the turbo - bugger!

To top it of, my power steering packed up, so tonights tune has be posponed until I get my steering fixed

I also found out that the dump/front pipe I have is only 2.5" in diameter, and to make it worse the cat (if you could call it that :) ) had dodgy 2" gaskets on it! I never measured the dump/front pipe, just took the work of a well known adelaide parts store that sells parts for people who enjoy japanese motor sports :) where it was all fitted

I replaced these and saw a increase in boost from 1.15bar to 1.28bar on the same duty cycle, so they where a definate restriction. The fact that the gasket closest to the turbo was all warped and melted may also indicate some for of restriction

So, once the power steering is fixed, a 3.5" dump pipe from the turbo back will be going on, and a bit of tuning to make sure its all running sweet

It would be interesting to see what differance just the bigger gaskets make, judging by the boost increase, it would have to make a bit more due to less restrction

Bugger... about the exhaust flanges...look at this way your setup has even more headroom which is awesome. The fact that it wasnt done right by the experts is disapointing, but good thing YOU found the prob so i guess it wont be happening again:)

Dont stress about the tune, when you are ready...its only so i can see the sorts of ignition and fuel your thing has at peak torque etc.

I apoligise for not completely understanding, but this mod you refer to which puts more preload on the actuator spring, are you saying this will help me be able to hold my target max boost without spiking 4psi above it first?

Sure does. Head out pop the bonnet of your car (the bonnet latch is next to the drivers side kick pad) ;) and have a look at the actuator bracket. You will know what I am talking about then. :D

You should also notice better boost response. :D

A before and after dyno overlay would be very interesting.

Roy - no probs mate, I will get it done asap and email it to you, I want to record the current tune and compare them both after a bit of tweaking with the new dump pipe etc.

Joel/Roy - Yeah, the exhaust flanges was quite interesting, goes to show how much some of these 'performance' wreckers/importers care about some people's car. First of all me paying $200 for a supposed 3" front pipe ( I should have measured it ) and then having it fitted with massively undersized gaskets - a complete joke, and to think I payed a extra $50 for them to fit it........thinking they would do a good job!

Boost doesn't drop away as much as before, but as my power steering is buggerd, on road testing was limited

Looking like early next week for the dump pipe to be made up, should be good

Bit of a update, with Christams etc is was hard to get anyhting done!

3.5" dump is on, from the back of the turbo to the tail pipe is 3.5", no nasty changes in sizes, cat, centre muffler - nothing. Going from 2.5" to 3.5" has made a big differance

The car makes more boost everywhere, so the old exhaust was a restriction, sounds a bit louder but not much. Also pops the odd 3ft flame out past the spoiler, dunno if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet :flamed:

It was going to be tuned too, but the dyno was busted so nothing will be done until after this week, but thats cool becasue I have 4 weeks off to get it all right

Should be good for a few more kW's now :P

Nice work man, thats a respectable power figure.

The boost dropping off in the higher revvs is a bit of a shame/worry.

I'd definitely be looking at the exhaust, but mainly looking at the turbo on it. Finding out whether its shagged, too small, or mismatched hybrid.

Hasn't been on the dyno since that graph,

since then I have fitted a electronic boost controller and full 3.5" exhaust and dump pipe (that dyno was with a 2.5" dump/front pipe and bleed valve) so it holds boost fine now. A bit of a tidy up on the tune and then it should make a good number
