Compliance shoudl cost you around the $1500 mark.

Can't help you with specific workshops down there..........most engineeers should be able to carry the work out for you, the bonus being that THEY are the ones signing it off so you know it is done right the first time.

$1500? cool and what work is carried out with that specific import?

To have the car complied to the ADR standards on an '89 import, the following things need to be addressed:

- Side Intrusion Bars

- Drivers Side Flat Mirror Glass

- Fuel Neck Restrictor

- Import VIN Plate Attached

- Seat Belts in Good Working Order

- DOT or "E" Rated Tyres

- Child Restraint Clips in Rear

The first four are the most important, and depending on the engineer doing the report, he may or may not be flexible/lenient on the last items.

Just to give more details and to confirm with riverside. sorry for lengthy post. This is all true I promise.

It was a nightmare just to save $300 bucks. For those in melb dont go near JapTralia or Leena? Engineering in Knox.

Would try and call 20 times a day with no answers or messages returned. Only got booked in cause I drove there. When I went to pick car up after confirming it had been completed, they said would not sign cert as wheels were too wide and exhaust too loud - far enough I thought.!

They were ok to this point even offered to lend me some wheels and an exhaust for the pictures and sign report. So booked in to it after weekend. (wed). went there on the wed and the guy had gone home just some workers there. So ask them when he was coming - they no he had gone for the day. I got them to call him saying I was here and willing to do the work and drive to meet him where ever to do pics and sign certificate. - he said no (remember this was even booked in). I then ask to speak with him, they came back and said he did not want to speak to me. Great!!! condisering I had VICroads booked for Fri.

I then booked in again to do the same thing on thurs. Arrived on thurs. again not there and not coming back....... So missed Vicraods appointment and had to also pay for it. Furthermore.. Now said would NOT lend me wheels or exhaust I had to do it myself somewhere else!

So booked in to have it done over the whole weekend and pick up sun morning. Got there guess what not there. Another 100 not answered phone calls and waited 3 and1/2 hours and he arrives.

No sorry, no discount nothing just rude..

And thats been the disaster of a cheaper place. I would pay double just to not go back to the place. Strongly reccommend you all stay away...

    • We have 2x Swifts and my plans for a Swift, unfortunately, do not extend to an intake and an exhaust. I've been having dirty thoughts about a 2.5L Suzi V6, AWD gearbag out of a suitable donor, rear floorpan graft to take the rear cradle from same, and either trumpets of evil or a small supercharger. If I'm going to make noise in a Swift, I want it to be anti-social, evil handling and rough. Probably need to be fully stripped inside, matt black paint, plastic windows, 7" wide wheels, big brakes, silly suspension, etc etc etc. I have no idea if any of the proposed driveline components could take the pain. But it would be a hoot finding out.
    • Really, anyone modifying a car isn't being financially smart. We're doing it for the things we love. And honestly, a high revving, light, NA car is actually pretty darn fun. I used to have a Swift Sport, and I miss that thing as a daily, and yes, doing something like some intake and exhaust stuff would have made minimal gains, but would have bought an even bigger smile
