Has anyone got any info about these Magic brand cats? There is a small blurb about them in HPI mag this month on page 10. The photo isn't exactly indicitive of the final product.

Anyone used them before or have a link?

sounds good, but not many people have 4" exhausts

i guess if you need this cat then youve got lotso power and 4" anyway tho

plenty of GTR exhaust systems go twin 3 inch front pipes into single 4 inch from the cat back, hence people think it's silly to have a 3 inch cat with a 4 inch cat back system...

Sewid, any idea on where these cats can be bought?

Yeah, there is a few guys on here with 4" exhausts on their GTRs. Im using a compliance small body cat at the moment (2.5" piping) so need to upgrade pretty desperately.

I'm thinking of going with BATMBL's big body cat but a real performance brand cat might be able to flow better.

Magic Performance are supposed to have these, the number is 02 9939 1644. I should just call it but i've been busy today

Hey mate,

I have a 3" to 4" front pipe with 4" cat-back system, it came with the car from japan and had no catalytic converter, was driving around for a week (not good i know) while waiting to book it in. The exhaust was fantastic, popping and backfiring its way happily, even the occasional flames out the exhaust, the good news is, the Magic 4"cat went on and no real noticeable difference, the exhaust still makes that cool backfiring noise and i have noticed "maybe" the TINIEST restriction at higher rpm, but it could just be my imagination.

So yeah i'd recommend this cat, cost me $600 installed, probably be able to find yourself one cheaper but i was in a hurry, $10 000 fines don't appeal to me.

Sorry don't have a picture, but imagine a 4" wide baked bean can thats about 5" high and thats what it looks like. Got it installed at Premeir Exhaust and Performance Sandgate Newcastle, they were awesome guys, $550 for the cat and $50 to install, took them about an hour to do. The exhaust had two resonators so just got them to cut one out and chuck the cat on. My exhaust is actually surprisingly quiet for the size of the thing, it was some japanese custom made job.

Very interesting: shame the Apexi and Magic aren't directly comparable (ie. same size). Both seem to flow about 45-46% of the straight-through volume.

What is the price on the Apexi's? $600 seems rather a lot for a damn cat :)

$600 isn't that expensive. If you were to buy a Japanese cat in Japan from say Yahoo auctions you would be paying these prices:

Genuine Nismo cat: ~ 63,000 yen - $785 + postage + duty + GST + agents fees

Apexi super cat: ~ 53500 yen - $666 + postage + duty + GST + agents fees

SARD cat: ~44900 yen - $559 + postage + duty + GST + agents fees

So $600 for a proper cat doesnt seem so expensive to me.

Just ask whoevers fitting it if they can source it, i basically rung up the exhaust shop and said i needed the best flowing legal 4" cat they could get, they said that the Magic one was coming out in zoom and was rated the best out of about 10 types studied (haven't seen the mag so not sure on accuracy of that statement). Anyway it was $550 for the cat itself and then the cost of fitting it.

Any name brand Japanese brand is going to be expensive. I didn't mean to suggest it was expensive in relation to other brands, just that compared to your average ho-hum CAT its a big premium.

Edit: Takakaira has prices on the Apexi's: ~US$600.

Yes a full write up and test in Zoom

4"pipe1629cfm

4" Magic cat 750cfm

3" pipe 1152cfm

3" supercat 469cfm

3" supercat 524cfm (revised version)

As written  in Zoom

I would like to see another test on a a car with around 450-500hp after about 10,000 km to see how this magic cat is working. Most cats loose their usefullness on big hp cars after a few 1000 km's.

600bucks for a any one of the above mentioned Cats is damn expensive horsepower, i must say

but 600bucks for an apexi..fark ..i know someone that got one on he;s GTR from japan for $225 he said. dunno how that works.

its a "legal" cat. But its up to the discretion of the cop if u get pulled over isnt it?

Visually it doesnt look like any but a 4inch bit of pipe?

whats stopping them from reaming you? Victoria coppers especially.
