In search of 200rwkw

hi fellas,

im would like to know if my mods are able to give me 200rwkw's. Ive seen alot of threads about how to reach this figure before i think my car is a little different, then again it may be not anyways. Atm the mods that i have on my car includes

- turbo back exhaust 3"

- pod + cai

- fmic

Now i also have a ebc but i dont really consider that as a mod as such otherwise i would be also mentioning my turbo timer, g tech pro etc etc. What i would like to know is that with these mods what is the likely power figure that the car would put out as it has never been on a dyno before which i should have done when it was stock but didnt. Also, I realise that having the exhaust and fmic will up the boost which comes to my next point as to wether or not i should up the boost even further with the ebc considering that i have a series 2.

thanks in advance,

duc.

With the series 2 ecu and the mods listed you may reach 200rwkw on a friendly dyno at say 13psi. Its really depends on the dyno used.

To reach 200rwkw you would generally need at least some sort of fuel modifier and possibly ignion changes as well. I would be very suprized if you got 200rwkw with a stock ECU and no piggies.

As for power figure and your boost level:

With a FMIC you can safely run 12psi, but you may get ignition cut before then, if so just turn boost down until it goes away.

I reakon you should get around 185 - 190 at the wheels

I made 184rwkw with

- FMIC

- Full 3" exhaust from turbo back

- stock cat

- pod in cold air box, with cold air feed

- ebc set to 11psi

- stock ecu

But if you look at the curve the stock ecu is doing the whole rich and retard thing high up in the rev range.

has any of you two guys tried the reprogrammed ecu offered by toda from this forum. I was think as a temporary upgrade i would take this option or is this a waste of time as spending that $300 ish on a safc is better. With regards to boost levels, is 13 psi rather high for a series 2 turbo for its apparent specs, atm i have the ebc at 7 for low and 10 for hi as im sure most ppl have it at this setting as well. I know that i need a fuel pump - gtr or walbro for example, but is a fuel pressure regulator also necessary. Im hoping to make the line faster then the 180sx which although has only 170rwkw's its currently faster due to its power to weight ratio.

Run any more than 13psi and after awhile your turbo's exhaust wheel will come flying off and end up in your cat.

If you're not going to get a proper ECU replacement (power FC or otherwise) then just get an SAFC or SAFC2. Just remember you can still destroy your engine really easily with the SAFC's.... (need to make sure you get it tuned properly).

With an SAFC I'm pretty sure I could get my car tuned to make close to (but not that close to) 200rwkw on the UAS dyno.

But why do things in halves? Personally I'm saving for a power fc.

Hi all. I have had an 33 S2 1998 (very last of the 33's) for 2 yrs now.

Thought i would add my experience here.

I am running stock everything (as best i know) bar a pod filter (just sitting in engine bay.....i know, i need to box it up :-)) and a 3 inch turbo back exhaust, plus really high end lubricants everywhere.

ECU is definitely stock....i checked after the dyno run!

No indication that anything else isn't stock

Timing was set at 16degrees (1 degree advance over standard)

Fuel was BP Ultimate, and 1/2 a bottle of Nulon octane booster

Boost from dyno sheet peaks at just on 10PSI (over 4.5K, sits at 7.5 PSI below that)

On Willal's racing (very new, with latest software) dyno dynamics dyno in shootout mode, made over 192 rwkw.

(Willal put together that crazy silver 32 that's running 8's)

On the basis of that, i know that with a little more ignition timing, or with a cold air induction set up, or BP 100 fuel or something, i could scape over the line to 200 rwkw pretty easily

My ? is, given the limited number of mod's, does this all seem reasonable? Or is Willal's dyno really generous? Or am i just lucky, with a new late model 33 in great shape??

Thought's anyone?

PS, on the street, it is as quick as my friends stock 2002 HSV GTS 300....on paper they do 5.3 sec 100's and low to mid 13's...

In fact whenever we race, it usually comes down to the driver and the launch...at least up to 120 kmph or so...i am usually winning at this pt, then he starts to catch up, and i think he would ultimately nail me every time if we raced to silly speeds which we never have....i certainly have the advantage at low speeds/of the line tho.

Thought i would throw that in for some perspective...

iwannar34gtr can you post your dyno sheet?

There is one thing I know, and that is the stock series 2 ecu will richen and automatically retard the timing when it see's it's getting more air than 7psi.

How smooth is your curve.

I've never seen an R33 series 2 with stock ECU and no piggy back computer/s make over 180rwkw without doing some weird stuff with the curve up high.

It seems as though the series 2 Ecu's are better than the series 1. My series 1, i definately needed a SAFC to lean out the mixtures to get that kind of power. Without it, it was useless, maybe 120rwkw

Never heard of a "STOCK" GTS 300 doing low to mid 13's. more like low 14's or VERY high 13,s

very occasionally you'll get a 33 that has had its stock ecu fiddled with in japan. Ill say that 192 rwkw on an unfiddled ecu, running only 10psi, and no FMIC is not normal. no matter how high end the lubricants are!

theres a guy in SA whos stock ecu made 200rwkw with stock turbo, and the AFR's were in great shape and definitly didnt look factory.

Either your ECU has been modified, or the dyno was being generous, as 99.9% of cars with only exhaust and filter wont make much more than 175rwkw.

hey pplz my car is running with a 3" front to back zorst with dump pipes, S-AFC2, front mount (big but not huge), pod airfilter, stock turbo, and 13 Psi of boost, this is all in a 97 R33 sedan with RB25DET, what kinda power should this be producing???

  • 3 weeks later...

First up,

"Never heard of a "STOCK" GTS 300 doing low to mid 13's. more like low 14's or VERY high 13,s"

Well, i just looked at the latest copy of Motor, and the 250KW, 1645kg average mum and dad version Holden SS Commodore does 13.99 and 5.82

a bloodly little STI does 13.62 and 5.43 for crying out loud!! (190kw, 1450 odd kg's..i know 4wd, but still!!)

Anyway, u get the idea.

More importantly, I strapped a G-tech into the 'line and had a bit of a go on the weekend.

4 or 5 runs and the clutch was starting to smell :-(

Best times were 5.27 and 13.79 @108 mph (high terminal speed for the ET i think....indicates the trouble i had getting of line...)

Still had spare tyre and sub in boot etc etc,

Iwould like to try again at a strip where maybe i could find some more grip, and get a little more serious.....take some air out of tryres, empty out boot etc (Aside from the fact that bolting up to 180 on public roads is not the answer :-))

I am running 225/50/R16's...(i know, i need some wheels as well :-)) Traction was a real problem, not only off line, but high in first, and into second on the gear change..bogs down a little at start of second, cause revs lower than could be , cause wheelspin from 6k on in first.

So does this all bear well with the dyno sheet that i will now attach/post for all the doubters :-)

Does this sort of time match up with 190 odd rwkw's, all things considered?

Piggy Back on my ecu? Totally possible. How would i find that/where would i look?? I pulled the kick pannel off and eyeballed the ecu...had Nissan written all over it, but i couldn't say with any authority wether or not there were any piggy backs.

This little piece of info could help...it still has the speed limiter in place...won't go past an indicated (on speedo) 190-195 (guessing cause as we all know, the numbers stop before then)

Also, ran into speed limiter on dyno, high in 4th.

What dose that imply/infer about possible piggy backs?

Is there any way to tell what is up with the ecu, and wether it has been fiddled with as suggested?

I appreciate the pool of knowledge and experince here..it's awesome!

Regards,

Regards,

G Techs generally read about 5mph high over the 1/4, so your 13.79 @ 103 sounds about on the cards.

My car is running really rich in mid to high revs on full boost.

By bleeding off some fuel I gained 212.8kw (which was still rich), and without the assistance of bleeding off fuel I run everyday at 200.8kw.

John at UAS is stumped and has no idea either, we've all dubbed it a freak motor.

There is no signs of pinging etc, running 12psi with boost starting to drop around 5000rpm (Bloody Bleed Valve)

Mods are:

- Hybrid 800x300 FMIC

- 3" Turbo Back Exhaust and Hi Flow Cat

- Bleed valve @ 12psi

- Pod Filter boxed off and vented cold air

- 6 Finger bronze face ceramalite clutch

    • Start with a multimeter, and see if you're getting power at the TPS. There should be a manual for your car somewhere on these forums and it'll have the info for what closed TPS signal voltage is, and how it should sweep to full throttle. Same as for other sensors / valves.   Have you checked things like your base timing etc? See if anything looks amiss there too?
