Has anyone had any experience with this unleaded race fuel? I am especially interested in the difference noticed in detonation reduction and how different the tune could be compared with PULP. i.e. How much extra timing could be dialled in compared to a PULP map.

Info on fuel taken straight from here.

Thanks in advance :)

Adrian

Meets California RFG requirements. Recommended for high-performance street cars and import cars, as well as many powersports applications. Will typically allow turbo engines to raise the boost from the stock 8-10 lbs. to 20-25 lbs. AMA legal for Supercross and Outdoor Nationals. *Contains MTBE which is illegal in some states. An MTBE-free version of MS103 is expected to be available in Q1, 2004.

Didnt remap my computer toi run it...but used it as it was middle of summer, car had been pinging a little and i was going to Wakefield.

The car idled way smoother, the car ran cooler, it reved a bit cleaner up high in the rev range, but didnt ping depsite 28-32deg C day...but the car didnt feel any quicker, bu ti guess thats becuase i didnt even play with the ignition.

Not quite the feedback you were looking for but might be a starting point:)

Where did you guys get this fuel from and how much may I ask?

I've used the Sunoco GT Plus which is similar to the VP, purchased from here-click

It's a lot superior to PULP but no where near as potent as the C16. On the dyno the car took extra 4-5 degrees of ignition which resulted in an extra 35-40rwkw. From memory, that was with a mixture of 1:1 with Synergy.

@ $5 per litre, it can be very costly during a track day but ideal for extra ponies down the quarter.

.... pulp in the same breath.

Up there on the North Island I know you get 98RON.

But compared with VP and elf... they all come in a drum.

Cooler, safer & and more HP. What more do you need.

A lower price would be nice :D

A friend of mine owns E/T race fuels, they have their own service station located in Belmore, Sydney but are setting up a distribution network across Australia.

He's developed both a 102 and 110 octane fuel, unleaded and legal for sale and use in regular production vehicles.

At the moment you can get the 102 at the bowser at his service station, or in drums. Pricewise it's $3.85/L (or was last week). In drum form it's a little bit more expensive to cover the cost of the packaging.

He was saying the main customers he is getting are from racing groups that have to use a freely available, legal fuel (something similar to N1/homoglation rules)... apparently alot of rally teams have been cashing in on it.

Ratings wise for determining the octane rating needed was loosely based on Boost(bar)*static comp ratio, with 13.75 being the max for 102, and 110 past that. How much past that I don't know...

I've got no personal data on the fuels either, but will in the near future.

Thanks heaps guys. Chris, can you post here or somewhere near (new thread) when you have the specifics on the fuel? That'd be great.

I'd basically like to run the car without taking any timing out at all for the gas so it would need to allow me to put 3-4 degrees back into the tune without detonation.

Thanks.

Did you run that fuel at April Autosalon dyno comp this year?

1) No ANDRA license necessary

2) Doesn't foul O2 sensors

3) It's legal in all forms of motorsport (yeah I know, you're a rebel and will change rego plates blah blah blah anyway)

4) It helps to actually know something about fuels, I admit I don't know much but it would be easier to retune your car to make use of 102 octane rather than 116 by advancing the CAS or upping boost. Or putting in more NAWS.

5) It's about half the price ($3.85), you don't need to muck around with mixing fuels or trying to get accurate measurements. Or paying someone to do it for you.

The VP fuels are pretty awesome, but if you're going to use that much fuel you've obviously got a pretty serious engine, and wouldn't be looking at a fuel available at the bowser... of course you're already ANDRA tech'd and have all your licenses in order... right Mirkov?

i assume your talking to me, mirkov can answer if he wants, but seriously everything you do these days to a car is illegal be it turbo or electronics, i say same shit if im gonna use c16 for furl or install a fmic, your gonna get donw either way if you get caught, so if you got the money buy only the best and C16 is the best.

C16 is the best.

In a 7,000 rpm big block I would use C16, 2 valves per cylinder, push rod, wedge head. But in a 9,000 rpm RB,4 valves per cylinder, DOHC, hemi combustion chamber, with squish zones, I don't think so. The burn rate is too slow, the lead is hell on everything (including my brain). If you must use leaded fuel then I would suggest Elf TurboBoost, it is 115 RON (minimum) and has a hgher density at 0.795 than C16. That's a 9% increase in density, so you get 9% more weight of fuel in each litre. It is the weight of the fuel, not how many litres, that determins the power output.

If I was really pushing the envelope, but wanted unleaded I would go with Elf TurboMax, it is still up there at 0.779 in density. Plus it is highly oxygenated at 3.6% and has a RON of 102. HKS like it so much they even sell it with their name on it, as HKS Drag Fuel. But it isn't nice on the skin or inhaled too much.

Personally I don't like lead in fuel (kills cats, spark plugs, lambda sensors etc) so Elf LMS is my personal preference. It is also oxygenated (2.5%) and still has a high density at 0.765 and a RON of 101. It has the fast burn rate needed in high rpm, multivalve engines and it runs a bit cooler. Plus it isn't as nasty as TurboMax.

Hope that makes sense:cheers:

I don't need an ANDRA fuel log book to buy Unleaded fuel. It's cheaper than C16 and it doesn't fark O2 sensors. I can drive home from the drags and not get butt-raped for running leaded fuel in a car built for unleaded. Last I heard, the fine was something with 4 zeros...

10gs for getting caught drining on c16, elf fuel is the best by far i know that but at 12.5 a litre its rediculous

Which is why I am asking about Motorsport 103.

why waste 5 dollars a litre on 103 octane fuel when for 7.50 you can buy C16 with 116 octane.

Gues you answered your own question.

Where the hell are you being charged $12.50 per litre? :headspin:
