But are you running the standard regulator? coz if you are...the new pump will blast the crapper out of it and it won't run properly.

sorry, but I have to call bullcrap on that statement also, as many people are running large fuel pumps with the stock regulator... inc me in my old r33

Hi,

Well went to mechanic to get some stuff done, and he says to me,

'I can smell petrol from your car, it must be running lean, you need to change the fuel pump."

How much for you to do that i ask....

'$600'

Is there any truth in what he is saying or is he trying to 'upsell'.... I would of thought if you could smell petrol (which you can) the car would be running rich not lean...

Joh

did you fart next to him when he was saying this

or did some one fart in his mouth and was trying to pass the bad taste on to you? lol

LOL,

didn't dyno it to check mixtures, didn't inspect the injectors, didn't inspect the fuel lines, didn't inspect the pollution vapour lines.

Just smelt some fuel and said you need a gold plated fuel pump (must be for $600) and said its running lean.

What a dipshit.

Change mechanics :P

Good to hear.

You can never be to careful these days, so many shonkey people out there.

When you find someone you trust, you should stick to them.

A good mechanic will always show the customer proof of a fault and return any original parts to you, that were faulty/replaced when the job has been done.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a decent fuel pump I saw some decent ones on www.importbitz.com the other day; Walbro high pressure fuel pumps 255ltrs per hour delivery, includes filter and harness etc. Can't comment on the quality or reliability as I have never used one of these personally but for $180 including free delivery Aust wide, definitely worth looking into!

Good to hear as well that everything worked out with ur car, damn dodgy mechanics!

Do you get a nice de-pressurizing "psssht" when you unscrew the fuel filler cap ?????

If not:

Take the fuel filler neck out of the butyl rubber hose, coat the whole lot generously with fuel resistant Sikaflex, reassemble, let cure & I bet your petrol smell is gone. Compliancers replace them with dodgy units that don't fit - half or more of all nissan imports have "that petrol smell" because of this. There's a few threads on this forum about "that petrol smell".

$20 sounds better than $600 or $180

Hmm,

I think i should maybe go sus out my car too, because I've been getting a bit of a petrol smell at times, and I've noticed i'm getting bugger all from a tank of petrol. What do you guys with R33 gtst's get from a full tank, because I think mine is either drinking too much (like me) or is losing fuel somewhere... It's pretty stock and I am getting less than 300km lately. The last couple of refills have been not much more than 250km...

I'm getting the "depressurizing pshhh" happening, but petrol smell from front of car at times....

Does this sound familiar to you guys that have had similar things?

yeh i got my wheels from him...he hepled me out, good service.

He's very likely got a pump he has been stuck with and wants to offload.................happens all the time. He'll get rid of it to some newb eventually, in the meantime he checks you out and decides if your a sucker or not. If he offers you the pump [or whatever item] then he thinks your a sucker = get another mechanic and let him see if he thinks your pump is suss [no hinting].
