Call of the day. ;)  Have any of your expectations of service been met during the import process? I know mine weren't.  In fact I am not sure the word "service" has much relevance.

Arrr well, got my fingers crossed mate.  Do let us all know how things progress.

LW.

exactly it has taken 6months after full payment of the vehicle for me to be expecting my car to arrive. Everything seems to going smoothly now and its on a ship but how did this happen in the first place?

The transport company said everthing looks in good condition, no damage/theft except for the GTR badge at the back which someone has tried to steel and broken it!

that badge costs about $120 new from Nissan ;)

But having every second moron assuming your "only" driving a GTS-t? Priceless ;)

LW.

haha yeh good point. My car has a fibreglass bootlid so doesn't have a GTR badge. I bought one to put on it but I figure the fact that its a partially stripped race car with a full roll cage setup gives it away.

Still something to be said about the sleeper ;)

Just went over to the complience place to check it out. it's in better condition that i expected. The badge wasn't stolen the previous owner replaced the standard gtr badge with an aftermarket badge that is just an 'R'. Gotta love how japenese love to ruin original equipment with aftermarket crap to be a little different. Looks like the shipping company wrapped chains or straps around the two pylons were the rear spoiler meets the boot to tie the car down as there are some pretty bad paint scratches around there.

But apart from a good wash and polish its in pretty good shape.

if you go to the RTA to register your car, you need the following guys!!!!:

blue slip

rego form

PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OR PAYING INVOICE. jspec didn't know about this until me and 3 others tried to register our cars. SO BRING IT. auction houses don't give this to you need to get it from the person you get the car through or something

B/L (forgot mine)

and a GREEN SLIP(NOT NORMAL ONE, ESTABLISHMENT VERSION!) got it thorugh email now luckily.

CAN now register, going tomorrow morning.

Hmm, i'm not sure now which ship my car is on. I was told it was on the one loaded on the 22 Jan (Haul Trekker), but Craig said it would arrive on the 24th Feb and i thought he said "Tramper", but that hasn't been loaded yet so we wouldn't know??

Might have to call back on Mon.

even tho the tramper hasnt loaded yet the schedule has been posted and it arrives on 24th feb brisbane.

http://www.kiwicar.com/Schedule.htm

my cars on the trekker and a chick from kiwi rang me a few days ago to ask about my customs agent and stuff, hot phone voice too... lol

hey mark,

do you actually need to take the car down there for the rta to check out, or is the paperwork enough?

You only need the paperwork unless the RTA requests that you take it over the pits. Usually that only happens with cars imported under SEVS.

Mark: tsk tsk. Someone didn't read my importation thread :) I had exactly the same issue -- well, in my case I didn't have the import approval original -- ended up getting DOTARS to ring the RTA and the problem magically disappeared.

LW.

I KNOW!!!! that was ages ago I read that!

well i now have all my papers and heading over there soon to register it

but has anyone else had the other problem where the RTA wants proof you own the car?????

How about you lucien? did you need to call prestige for a reciept?

mark

Prestige gave me a receipt the day I bought the car (in electronic form), so I just printed off a copy. My only issue was, as I said, that I had a faxed copy of the Import Approval: the RTA insisted on the original. I had to ring DOTARS, who were incredibly unhelpful at first -- "no the supervisor isn't in" -- but with some prodding -- "hang on, I will give you my supervisor's extension" (two seconds later) -- rang the RTA directly to let them know that import approval had been granted.

LW.

One thing: make sure you cough up the $30 for slimline white plates -- unless you are getting some custom plate -- as the standard yellow ones look arse.

You will need to trim the rear plate at both edges to get it to fit, but its doable :) (Maybe get your workshop to do it if they have a cutting press dodacky so they are nice clean cuts)

Maybe also take some valium: the RTA inevitably raises my blood pressure.

LW.

I had a copy of the invoice, to which I paid promptly but  didn't get confirmation

oh well I'll get it done today

Weird. Mine was unsigned and they didn't care but you are the second person who has recently visited the RTA (Five Dock by any chance) who has been declined without a signed invoice. Perhaps there has been some decision made to check now..?

After four months, one week, and two days, I say in my car last weekend :P

The Good

3" catback exhaust I didn't know about

Inside is b.e.a.utiful! Seats look spotless and almost new

Outside looks great, only marks on passenger mirror - no doubt more to see once it's washed

18" deep dish 2-piece 5-spokes look horn

The Bad

the 'standard' damage to the spoiler pylons - cheers Kiwi

4WD light stays on - and there has been a prang in the drivers rear quarter, right next to the HICAS lines. - ack! you didn't mention that Geoff!

centre vents busted

wiper arms need paint

The Ugly

the "Mega-Widescreen VisionMax" mirror that has been installed over the standard rear vision mirror. It's about 15" wide! The view is actually very good, but looks oh so stupid.

the threaded golf ball for a gearknob

Yeehah

Fark me. do you mean last weekend as in just 1 or 2 days ago, or the one before that? Cause either way my car still hasn't F#$king arrived. F#$k. I'm starting to get really pissed off.

BTW. congrats on it arriving safe and sound mate :(:D

Richard: your not the only one still waiting on a car from the Prince No. 1 :P

cowie165: Sounds like a win :)

LW.

Just got word that my car is arriving today. About F@#king time.

this is the 17th day since my car cleared customs in brisbane. Not bad. it takes less time to get from Kawasaki to Brisbane than from Brisbane to Sydney.

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
