Hello Skyliners!

REACT (Rotary Enthusiasts of the ACT) is proud to announce our second ever CAMS affiliated event, the SaruSeven Motorkhana. This event is being run as a multi-club event, meaning that anyone can enter as long as they have a CAMS licence. It would be great to see some SAU members at this event.

When is it and where is it?

The motorkhana starts at 10.30am on Sunday 23 January at the Sutton Road driver training complex, just outside of Canberra. Competitors must be present for scrutineering from 9am.

How to enter

Entering is farily simple.

1. Read the event announcement on the REACT website

2. Download the entry form and supp regs.

3. Send the entry form to REACT with your entry fee

4. REACT will send you a receipt and some other details

5. Come along and have fun!

The small matter of CAMS licences

The SaruSeven Motorhana is a CAMS affiliated event which means that you need a motorsports licence to participate. SAU is CAMS affiliated so you can get a licence through SAU.

There is no test to get a licence, you just fill in a form and send CAMS some money.

You need a minimum of an L2NS licence which costs $44 for a year.

What will this cost and what do I get for my money

What is costs

The entry fee is $35 if you enter before 17 December and $40 if you enter after 17 December but before 14 January. The fee is per driver.

What you get

The entry fee goes towards obtaining the CAMS permit, producing the book of test layouts and hiring the Sutton Road complex's large manouvering area.

The CAMS permit covers REACT in the unlikely event that something goes wrong and also covers competitors involved in any accidents with non-competitors. Yes, REACT has third party property cover on all entrants!

Regardless - not as far as I know. I would doubt that a business would open their carpark to "anyone" to hold a motorkhana, mainly from an insurance side of things. The CAMS side of things gives REACT and competitors $100,000,000 of public liability cover so that places like Sutton Road are willing to let us hire their venue.

It is possible for clubs to have "come and try" days where you don't need to be a member to come along and where day-licences are provided but that's not what REACT is running in January.

ahh thats a bit of a pain.....its required for race vehicles so the car can still be moved by the marshals if the keys aren't in it.

But I've never heard of this reg with motorkhanas, up to and including national champs :)

I will look in my CAMS manual tonight and see if its in there for motorkhanas. Perhaps the scrutineer is confused with higher level stuff - he normally scrutineers for rallies, IIRC.

KOS! cams affiliated club = US.

neil, if we need the ignition lock thingy its a 2 min job with a drill....but its a little difficult to reverse later....

Pretty sure Sutton Rd is tar a nice big skidpan they use for those motorbike l plate trainings.

And they have a lovely wet handling circuit there too ;) and of course the full track :rolleyes: Air over the last hill in someone else's car...O what a feeling....

I have just now heard back from our Chief Scrutineer - the ignition lock is only required for pre-1978 unregisted cars only.

If your car is post 78, no problems, even if it's un-rego'd. :)

Neil, the venue at Sutton is a large flat tar area, as Duncan described. We will be using it dry due to water restrictions.

Early entries close NEXT Friday, the 17th. Save yourself $5 and get in early! :P

no sorry Saru, not from me....typical internet all talk and no turn up. The axle is still sitting in the middle of the floor borken.

But please keep us posted about other events, I'd love to give something down there a shot later in the year.

      A little follow up here on the ceramic coating.  We've had storms galore here and I've done a few ks, enough to gross them up  Consensus is that they didn't get as dirty as usual, the coating definitely repelled a little of the dirt and I think they kinda snowball. They get a little dirty and then they get dirty faster which makes sense. Cleaning them regularly would allow them to protect better.  Cleaning was a breeze. I tried first to just hose them off which, unsurprisingly, did nothing. But, making the wheels wet and then just wiping them over with a used but clean microfibre cloth was all that was required. I didn't need any cleaner at all, just water and a cloth. The wheels look amazing again.

      Gave her a nice wash today and took extra time to clean off the tree sap and tar and crap. We have a usable garage now so she'll stay cleaner longer. Took a few snaps in some nice light afterwards.

      OK, solid mount Z1 diff brace is in, pretty straightforward, it picks up 3 diff hat bolts and ties them to 2 support bolts on the subframe. Pretty sure someone else on here said they had reduced axle tramp with this but mine was already pretty good for smooth wheelspin, and still is....will see you this goes over time and whether I end up with a broken rear diff hat

      Ah yes, but the part in my hand was actually painted and fitted by me! I knew any front lip was likely to be sacrificial but I've had to fix it twice already... by the time I buy a fibreglass fixing kit, sort out sandpaper blocks, buy some fibreglass filler, body bog, spend the time and effort for a 'Greg' result... a new one being $290 seems like it's the better way to go and spray that with bedliner/raptor coat and we're all pretty again.. Would have preferred it last more than a month though. Them's the breaks I suppose.

      I find it funny that the USA is finding out all this really really weird stuff, and people from the USA are coming here treating it like gospel, yet, all the info on solving those issues is here on these forums for the last 15 odd years... Also, I know how much heat it takes to ignite the hood lining of an R33 skyline. I worked it out myself... It also took a LOT of time, and heat for it to do it... Big single, and I needed to drive the car, so retarded the timing off to "protect it". Yeah, that was a bad move for cruising on a freeway with only 15 degrees of timing on it. That was a lesson I learned around 2009. So that's over 15 odd years ago. Aligning water and oil, that's identical for any turbo engine, it's not Japanese specific. If a shop doesn't know how to make sure the core is rotated the right way, then they shouldn't be touching any turbo engine. That's not a matter of "We haven't had Skylines for that long here"...
