driver always plays a part in the time you get too. getting all this power to the ground is another thing, its all good having 200+rwkw there to use but no fun (relativly) if all you do is sit there spinning the wheels...

I have great traction with 222rwkws...it aint that hard or rocket science to get that sort of power to the ground. You spend 5-7k fitting turbo/IC/exhaust/ECU because you want to go quicker, then dont do anythig with suspension wheels and tyres? Thats cool as shredding tyres IS fun and impresses ppl, but with D01J and Whiteline susp my car hooks up really well.

But the fact that my car doesnt hit 16psi in 2nd gear until 60km/hr is partly the reason why i dont have traction probs:) That said rign 1st gear to 8,000rpm and its all business in 2nd gear.

And Joel, im in Adelaide now, going to Classic Adelaide Prologue tonight, i wrap in the hills woudl be great.

I appologise for the ignorance but what is the AFM cut. Do you mean the swap to Z32 or infinity or is there another way to get rid of it.

Sorry for the off topic question also.

So I'll add this.

Hybrid Hyflow (which I blew last night - 2 years old running 18 psi) $1500 fitted

PWR intercooler (biggest you can possibly fit) $1500 fitted

Bosch 945 550 HP fuel pump $270

Malpassi Rising rate reg $165

Full exhaust including wastegate bypass $250

Everything else WAS stock at the time

12.3 @ 119 mph

+ what's so good about bloody RB25's and 26's anyway. The 20 is stronger than both in my opinion. Plus parts are cheaper and they rev better.

and if you're gonna go to all the trouble of putting a different engine in, gimme $10,000 and I'll build ya a V8 that'll pull 10's.

My advice...stick with the 20 and throw about $4000 into it..

also, invest in an oil cooler, this will turn your neck snapping 12 second 32 GTST into a "hey, I've had my 32 for 5 years now and it's still a neck snapping 12 second GTST".....(add words like 'hot', 'tough', 'killer' or awesome or all of the above into the previous statement)

While I can see where you are coming from, personally I like RB20's, if I spend $4K on an RB30DET I'll run mid 11's in an R32GTST.

This is my budget, before you ask, yes I did it and the car has been doing it for 4 years.

RB30E complete $400, sold the SOHC head for $500. So bottom end cost -$100

Full standard rebuild $1200

Used T04 $600

RB20DET exhaust manifold $50

RB25DE (non VVT) complete $800, sold bottom end for $600, So top end cost $200

R32 GTR Intercooler $500

Rechip STD computer $600

RX7S5T injectors $260

Used Jasma 3" exhaust $400

Mild steel split dump, no cat $300

GTR fuel pump $150

Total = $4,160

Result = 475 bhp on the engine dyno

Time = 11.6 at 124 mph

The extra capacity makes it so much easier to do the times, the RB20 (yes I still have one) is so much harder to get of the line than the RB30.:)

PS; It did need a good clutch though. but I notice you didn't inlcude one in your list either.

-filter

-boost @ 1 bar

-stock suspension or otherwise softer damper settings and as close to zero or even + .5 camber as u can get, reasonably soft tyres, deflated too a bit

-good clutch and good adjustment point (friction point close to ground but enough pressure for redline shift)

-exhaust 3" from turbo back

-good plugs, gap at .7-8mm

-good fuel, 98RON

-good fuel supply, new filter and a pump such as bosch 040 or 044 or walbro equiv, ex-GTR pump etc

-ignition +2 degrees from stock but no further

-s15 intercooler or something similar in size.

-LSD in decent condition, gearbox in OK condition

then get your launch right (launch Hard with traction/slip if needed) and you will not have any problem getting a high 12. even with a cleaned, stock intercooler.

Trav

I think thats being extremely optimistic.

From a R33 RB25DET yes but from the RB20t no.

The RB20t with those mods will be running mega rich up top (in to the 10's with an after market pump) and only be making around 140rwkw.

If you plan to run 1bar with a bleeder then boost will bleed back down to around 12.5psi or so over 5500rpm.

Get boost holding 1bar all the way to redline and you will see around 150-155rwkw.

Sort out the fueling so it runs high 11's and you will then see around 165rwkw.

Even then thats only enough power to pull a mid to high 13sec 1/4 at best.

UNLESS you run a set of slicks/Nitto's etc.

Big burnout get the tyres really sticky then launch at 7000rpm.

I would imagine that setup should see you in to the high 12's, flat 13's if its cold, have a tail wind and the run is faultless.

All in all the best a stock turbo will run with the average street tyres I think is a mid to high 13sec if its really really clean/

I know of an R33 that made 173 or 178rwkw I can't remember exactly, stock IC, exhaust, slicks, 12psi & fuel pressure reg bleeder. That ran a high 12 sec pass.

Dyno figures are only a figure to compare mods etc but they do give you a rough idea.

.5 of a sec or even 1 sec doesn't sound like much but it sure is. :P

I cant see a tweaked stock R32 running near a 12...and im the biggest fan of the R32 and RB20...if you somehow managed a similar result, my god awesome result and congrats, but it doubt it woudl be repeatable.

As Joel said 200rwhp in 1400kg car with driver/fuel etc aint going to set the drag strip on fire:(

It would be interesting how close the 32 would get with say 165rwkw and a set of slicks, I think I was even being optimisitic stating a flat 13.. :P

I think the general setup, normal rubber street tyres, making at least 160rwkw & good driver ( like my self.. hahah :D ) a high 13sec 1/4 is not out of the question.

Meggala, and Inark's old R32's ran about low 14's.. with around those power levels and stock street tires... But yeah, a high-ish 13 is surely possible on stock turbo with some tweaking. Who knows what the real limit is for rb20det stock turbo combo?

As the R33 stock turbo has shown to do some great times nobody expected with stock turbo.

Its an interesting challenge, as not many people do too much to the R32 these days...

I will give my r32 with the rb20 a few runs when its ready.. see what happens (not really expecting much)

I would have been really interested to see how my RB20DET went down the 1/4.

It had no problems hassling a stock 33 GTR & 1 stock R32 GTR with an exhaust (obviously with the gtr doing a 7000rpm launch) or pulling away from VX LS1's/VY II 280kw Senators etc.

My mods were at the time.

Stock Suspension

Grippy Simex 225 50 Tyres.

Stock ECU.

Stock Airbox & Filter.

3" Exhaust from turbo back, highflow cat, 1 large resonator & 1 large rear muffler.

Bar & Plate FMIC (smallish that fits behind the stock front bar).

~11.5:1 AFR using the fuel pressure bleeder

~20degree's ignition timing

15psi of boost using an EBC.

That made 164rwkw.

I then ditched the fuel pressure reg bleeder, removed the EBC, redrilled the wastegate actuator holes so I could increase boost and hold boost up top that way, set boost to 16-16.5psi (just under the nasty fuel cut) so the afr's were very close to 12:1 by this stage.

Ignition timing still at 20degree's.

100mm cia cut in to the bottom of the stock air box.

With that setup and a nice clean 4200rpm launch with a bit of clutch slip to prevent wheel spin and changing gears close to 7500rpm it would get to 100km/h in around 5.2secs consistantly.

Wheel spin up a little too much and it would get to 100km/h in around 6secs.

It was a fine line with wheelspin though.

Running that little bit more boost did make the car feel like it had no problems reving to 7500rpm. But boost would start to creep to 16.5psi by that stage.

Dangerous but it hung in there. :P

Roy are going to drop a burnout before the launch to warm up those tyres?

LOL..Ill try:(

Im going to have about 18psi on them cold, so will try and do a bit of a 2nd gear burnout. Im not know for my burnouts...hopefully there wont be any cameras, maybe i should remove my plates and put some stickers on my car as camouflage:)

With a sticky track and decetn grip i think i should be a chance of leaving the line at about 4,500rpm, 2nd gear isnt a prob as it hooks up well, first gear...who knows. I may even wind 1.4 bar into 3rd and 4th gear...will see how i go on the night :P

Be carefull with that g/box. :D

Clint was making around 240rwkw, dropped a burn-out on decent tyres (RE540's I think they were) launched and broke the box.

The box was fine on normal tyres. :P

Nah she will be fine mate, thats why god created single plate clutches, so i can fry them instead of the box:thumbsup:
