Be carefull with that g/box. :D

Clint was making around 240rwkw, dropped a burn-out on decent tyres (RE540's I think they were) launched and broke the box.

The box was fine on normal tyres. :P

Any spec's on clints car? I thought the rb20 box would hold alot more then 240rwkw..

Josh.

Well ill give the car another hit on the way to work in the morning, but coming back from the airport i gave the car a squirt and over 6,000rpm its missing pretty bad killing top end power. Wind boost back to 1.0bar and its ok....but at 1.3 its playing up:(

It also had a little bit of wheelspin in 2nd, just a smidgen, only noticeable because it axle tramped a little...maybe drag racing isnt for my car:( ...it didnt axle tramp prior to my wheel alignment the other week for the Sandown day i missed:(:P:(

LOL...drag racing is nowhere near as much fun as circuit, but its still great as its interesting to try/see how different things affect the car.

My thinking to do a 12 in an R32 you only need 190-200rwkws and decent rubber. My best tonight was 13.4 @108mph. My problem was with any more then 1.0-1.1bar the ignition was braking down, and my clutch was slipping in 3rd gear. Towards the end of the night 4th gear started slipping as well.

That was with a piss poor 2.2 60ft time as well and 1.0bar, at that boost i probably have around 190-200rwkws. Ill buy some new coil packs and adjust my clutch (its only got 2,000 easy kms on it, drive to Adelaide and back) and get the thing down the track with the extra 20-30kws it has at 1.2bar.

And that time was with 28psi in in my tyres, when i dropped tyre pressures down to 18psi it has so much traction it kept bogging down off the line, probably part of the reason the clutch was slipping:( I need to leave the line harder at 5,000rpm riding the clutch a bit harder.

Anyway, my thinking now is a 12 shouldnt be too hard in an R32.:(

...oh and i suppose i should declare i was :Owned: by R31Nismoid :D i think i ran a 14 or something:(

PS..not meaning to make excuses, just pointing out that i dont think i need more power or anything different in the way of tyres or susp...although a nicer clutch would be nice :)

LoL, dude I got a 14.56 in the ceffy and its pretty much stock! What are you doooing!

Good discustion to read tho, it gives me hope of high 12s on the ceff with a fair few bolt ons (full laden ceff with me, fuel, stezza etc prob Id guess about 1500kgs+)

Im kind of suprised the lower tyre pressure made such a big difference with the lower profile tyres, I guess I shall try that too next time.

LoL, dude I got a 14.56 in the ceffy and its pretty much stock!  What are you doooing!

What are you asking me for, i got no idea what i was doing out there. :D

When racing Ash i got desperate as i knew he was going to chop me so i wound a bit more boost into it hoping it would run ok (pot luck/fluke) and give me a chance...but guess what, top of 2nd gear it started missing again:( so back off and cruised across the line...no matter he was already 3 or 4 car lengths ahead of me. BUT my burnout was way better...his was lame:thumbsup:

Still im not too fussed, 13.4 with only 1 bar, im happy :(

From memory Clints car was making 243rwkw on 17psi with a TO4 something.

TO4E maybe.. It didn't have much below 5000rpm.

It ran a stock exhaust manifold, stock injectors (upped fuel pressure), ECU remapped, exhaust, fmic & pod.

I grabbed his old flywheel off him, it was pretty hammered. Lightened if you like. :(

He ran a ceramic single plate that is pretty much on or off.

With a ceramic single plate the 20t box won't last long with much more than 200rwkw and a set of really sticky tyres. Not just std. street tyres I mean some thing along the lines of RE55S, Nittos & Toyo RA1's.

Basically he dropped a burnout launched it and munched the box first try with the sticky tyres.

Std tyres the box was holding up fine.

240rwkw is around 300kw at the flywheel or 400hp so thats pretty damn good from the 20t box that is essentially a VL N/A gearbox with beefed up double syncro's.

-------

Roy, what clutch are you running?

Previously I was running one of those Extreem 30% more clampin organic clutches. That would launch hard at 4000rpm but occasionally I would get slip in to second gear.

I'm now running a 9puk Extreem 1 Tonne ceramic clutch that grips like hell.

There's no way this will be slipping easily.

Whatsisname is also running the same clutch as I and has over 260rwkw with Drag spec wide Nitto's.

Any spec's on clints car? I thought the rb20 box would hold alot more then 240rwkw..

Josh.

Roy, what clutch are you running?

Its an Extreem single plater, puck clutch thats all i know:( The guys that isntalled it said it would be fine with the power i have, so im hoping its just an adjustment thing, but i fear its sh1t and cant handle a bit of heat:( In which case... scatch up yet another backward step which i paid good money for:(

As for the box, LOL...it must come back to driving style, mine has done 180,000kms. 150k with std turbo and i suppose 150-160 rwkws, then the last 30k with between 200-220rwkws and all good. My old clutch was a UAS single plate GTR clutch. And i have run numerous sets of D01Js at the track, probably about 1,000kms worth of about 3,500kms of track work. I though i drove pretty easy / smooth, but a passenger has commented my shifting is full of spirit:(

There is also a guy in Melb with one behind a 220rwkws RB26, and Gareth is a lunatic and the box is holding up. (if you read this i use the word lunatic with a great deal of affection :( )

So i suppose that means any higher then 230 rwkws and perhaps you are getting close to what they can handle? Not sure, with my new Spitfire Coil Packs, exhaust and clutch fixed i should be around 250rwkws so i suppose ill find out when i hit the 1/4 mile when it all ariives in 2-3 weeks:thumbsup:

Im getting c0cky now, i reckon i can get a low 12 out of it...whats the quickest RB20 powered car getting around, was it Clint with 12.8? At what mph?

It has the full Whiteline kit.... http://www.whiteline.com.au/docs/fact_shee...line_R32GTS.PDF

Thats me in the pic:)

Low 12s is 12.49:)

i have no idea really, but id think with the ignition prob fixed and no slipping clutch then i should be able to knock out a 115mph...then i just have to get my 60ft down to 2.0flat and i think that would mean a low 12?!?!

One question though, is it Nankangs or Federals that are pretty good for drag racing ...fark this doing burnouts with $900 worth of Dunlop semi slick, i just wasted 2-3 track days worth of rubber:(

Clint Did well.

Tyres RE540 but most of the runs on std street tyres before the box went. I couldn't find the post where he mentioned that though.

60ft - 1.89

ET - 12.87

TS - 113.5mph

On the same tune which was actually 234rwkw he ran a 13.4 @ 110mph & a best mph of 112. He only got 2 decent runs before the g/box died.

LOL...now you got me worried, having a think about it, i did about 15 passes last night and each run the clutch slipped in 3rd, occassionaly in 4th. So that would have been looking after the gearbox.:)

When i joked about the single palte slipping i didnt think it would be that weak, hell i was only throwing 200rwkws at it with nothing too savage in the way of gear changes:(

I wish i was running my data logger as i suspect the wheelspin in 2nd was actually clutch, would have been able to look at road speed and engine revs to see if it was clutch:) The thing wasnt dancing sideways or anything, engine revs were just jumping which may sugest it was the clutch in 2nd as well.

I think ill have to fly Clint over, 1.89 60ft :)

My best was a 2.1 with a slipping clutch:( On the way to work this morning i granny shifted 2nd at about 2,500rpm then floored it and waited for boost to come on...again running 1 bar no wheelspin , no slipping clutch just traction and pretty decent acceleration. So it seems if you even look at riding the clutch in 1st and stab 2nd the clutch runs home to mumma:(

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
