I know a mate he is buyin g a car from melbourne its getting complied and registerd here . The only mods are half cage - will be removed as its not legal.

and it has aftermarket suspension. is this registerable in SA ?

transfer the papers, what checks will it get?

Half cage is legal, but it must have the rear seats removed as well as seatbelts. It can only be registered as a two seater - oh, and the cage should be 100mm back from the front seats in the rear most position.

aftermarket sus is OK, but they may ask you to weld it up if its coil overs. Also, you must be at stock ride height, no lowering allowed (the roads are too shit and they dont want them damaged - I think they want to pass a law making only 4WDs registerable here so they dont have to do any roadworks at all:))

You have to do a number check to transfer the papers, and they could check anything and everything, but are only 'required' to check engine number afaik.

they only like aussie cars in this state, so tell your friend to be prepared to be farked up the arse.

Just noticed your friend is getting complied here? not too sure about initial compliance, but was under the impressioni it has to be in stock form completely.

Just a quick point (sort of on a tangent) but why do they ask us to weld up adjustable coilovers, when on a Valiant with torsion bar suspension you just have to turn one bolt to raise/lower the car. I have never heard of a valiant having to weld its suspension up.

I wonder if thos sets up a legal case for discrimination, as later model valiants also have to meet the (most of) same ADR's we do.

I know its not much to do with this thread, however its important to note that height ajustable suspension DOES NOT break any laws within Aust,ie it doesnt break any state laws nor does it go against the adr's.There are in fact many cars that come new into this country that have coilover (read- ADJ suspension on them std from the factory and they get complied and registered!)

However the adr's state that the wlding of suspension components is not allowed- so what does this tell you?----Regency is breaking the law by not telling the truth, and is infact telling you to break some of the adr's by welding them(the collars)

As long as the car has 100mm clearance under the car and you still have the correct amount of suspension travel(i think it's two thirds of the original travel-however dont quote me on this-check) you should be deemed leagal in s.a. and obviously pass in any other state as we are sooooooo far behind the other states in regard to legal modifictions allowed on our cars thanks to regency pk's attitude of they know better than the aust govt and the adr's and commen BLOODY SENSE!

Anyway enough from me,good luck getting you car coplied and re-registered in s.a.

Hey, if you're getting it complied here, give Rob a call from PVP Imports on 8367 5261. Other places in SA like Best Enterprises can be a bit of a pain about complying cars with aftermarket mods, but Rob is generally a bit more flexibile + he's good. Highly reccomended.
