Got two new tryes and an alignment. Alignment my ass....the car's pulling to the left. The guy reckons they can't fix it because it's the way the japanese cars are made (their roads tilt in right, ours tilt out left)...but it wasnt doing it before i got the new tyres.

Any Ideas???

the hicas wont automatically self align....it's just a steering rack like the front, so to do a 4 wheel alignment on it should be the same as any other car. I did the alignment on my car same as i would any other 4 wheel adjustable and it drives fine. toed the rears in 1 and same for the front.

you should be able to let the steering wheel go and the car generaly stay driving straight, depending on the road it may vere (very slightly) in accordance to the camber of the road, but on a highway should go straight.

I dare say wherever you took your car just couldnt be bothered fixing it cause the story given to you shounds like a complete crock

:D

 BS

Jap cars are right hand drive same as ours. Gutters are on the left, not in the middle of the road. The road cambers to the left so that the water runs into the gutters. Maybe its because they are in the northern hemisphere and the water spins anti clockwise going down the drain. Or is it clockwise :)

PS; find a decent suspension shop and get the caster (front only) and camber + toe checked on all 4 wheels. New tyres show up any small differences, older tyres can cover them up as they wear.

Let me guess, you went in for the free wheel balance and they told you "those tyres wont take a balance" so you got four new ones and a bodgie wheel allingment to go with. Anyway, as the people above have suggested that is an absolute load of sh1t. Try "spinning wheel tyres" in sydney (if you're in sydney that is) they are quite good. edit: D'oh, just saw that you're in perth, forget SWT then!

Hey guys

I just got my steering rack changed and the dorky mechanic forgot I got HICAS on the car so he just stick the rack back into the car without making sure the steering is as it was before.

The steering is now at 2 o'clock when the car is going straight,HICAS light goes off the moment the ignition is turn on.

My question is if I were to get it aligned now do I need to pay attention to anything in particular? or a normal alignment job is sufficient? Please help

devo, take it back and get him to pull the steering column from the rack and align it properly, and don't pay him cos he didn't do the job right the first time.

SK as always is correct.

Richard has obviously seen the dodgy buggers at work. I went in to get a quick balance before the last track day at PI and Beau's (the big blue place that's everywhere) tried the same thing...'..but the tread's too thin now (40%) and it will go out of balance at high speed.' Me - 'Have you ever driven on a race track at over 240kmh?' Beau's - 'No, never been on a race track.'

Get the alignment specs from Whitelines website and take them for your alignment so the idiots don't screw it up again.

It was a hook up with cost price for the tyres and yeah, free alignment and balance. They WERE supposed to look after me. The man 2nd in charge dealt with me and when he found out what the manager quoted me, he was not happy...so i reckon it was a bit of a payback and the alignment wasnt done at all. It was beaurepairs in freo - so stay away.
