I'm thinking of upgrading my R33 GTR camshaft to 272 stage 2 with valve spring. I've heard that several modification has to be done. Maybe head shimming or something with the valve / shim the tappet as the lift is higher. Please advise. As i know for stage one camshaft (272 also), i've installed into my friend's car without any modification on the head and no problem to date. Any advise is highly appreciated.

Don't make my mistake. I ordered valve guides, springs and retainers after I bought my step 2 cams. There was a lot of additional machining/shimming.

Buy the set with the cams as they will all be matched. Should only have the machining to clear the lobes and basic shimming to do then.

HUH????Just buy the cams and springs.....mill out the head....then fit them in and adjust the shims......whats "the set"????

Main issues are the valve guides and retainers - apparently there are a number of different types depending on the lift (or "Step") of the cam. I haven't talked to the workshop that did the head work, but at a guess I would say I bought the "Step Pro" instead of the "Step 2".
