RB25 DET Rev problems??HELP

hey just got a question for all you mechanical gurus out there... just recently when im accelerating and the revs hit 3grand there seems to be a very small amount of lag then it spools up quickly and agressively to about 4grand then seems to maintain the boost and continue as if nothing is wrong. Its the period between 3-4grand im concerned about as it seems to boost late but abnormally agressively. Only seem to notice it in 2nd gear and upwards....wandering whehter it would have ne thing to do with the wastegate mabey???
