regan
just got an email from geoff and it is on the boat on its way over the stressing is over....... Good to hear dude, now all you need to do is *wait for the vessel to marrive *Pay a s#it load of freight&Duty *Hope the warfies dont play "Fast and the Furious on the Wharf"with your ride *Hope the Quarantine service,s dont fill it with water *Hope its not been lowered or lower than the truck picking it up *Find a competant shop to fit door bars and comply *hope the XX.000KM showing is accurate?as I am sure you have read enough HPI mags to work out what an engine rebuild costs.. *Hope the DEPT of Transport guy is in a good mood when you go to licence it *Hope to find an Insurance company to insure it? But at least you can stop "stressing out now" Seriously hope all is well and good luck dude.... blackanator
they get a hell of a lot of money just for forwarding emails, and for browsing yahoo auctions... btw - when you get your car finally here, get a professional or pay some one to look at it and tell you exactly what is wrong with it now, A friend of mine finally got his GTR from J-land - i wont disclaim the popular broker/supplier - ie who he went through with, they changed the oil, played around with the boost, then the engine started knocking reallly really bad, they put boost down to .6 thought that would sort it self out, then the engine died. The report from japan was the "runs very well and is in good condition" was even a grade 3.5. Now he needs a new engine... Dont kid yourself with 15 years old cars, they are 15 years old :| I was going to import a GTR myself, prices started to rise, so i was gonna settle for a hard ass GTS-T, but a friend told me of a friend of his who had a GTR, imported a few months ago, and was selling (he's an importer himself, so he changes cars like his undies). I ended up paying just over 20K, that was after a full inspection, brake overhaul, full service etc. About 1-2 weeks of just cleaning the car etc, the alternator dies, that was about 400$, air con gas became degassed magically(leak), nothing too major - and thank heaven not, because i was shitting myself over small things like that, let alone an engine rebuild. Luckily the bloke i bought it off is not dodge, he has been able to fix everything so far for it, no charge. But its gotten me real paranoid with the car So just becareful with your purchase, and remember that 15years old is a long time. Get it checked out properly, and be real honest with yourself. because if things **** up big, you gots to pay big Anyways good luck with your cars, heh the reason why i didnt import, is because i wanted it right there and now, after seeing the GTR i bought it less than 2 weeks later, let alone having to wait for months on a boat But yeah, good luck, i hope you enjoy it as much as i do, killing commonwhores on a daily basis Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/56885-anyone-having-problems-importing-there-car/page/2/#findComment-1110787 Share on other sites

Guest
They all use the same people in Japan it is a fact of live at the moment, with the amount of ports they can leave from it will be a thing to think about when you want to bring a car in. I have had cars out of Yokohama after 4 days of buying on a boat but down south take a month. I know of importers that do upto 50 cars a month and they have problems so dont think it is only the one timers. Lona
i recently got an import and had no trouble getting it on the road, picked it up from the shipping yards on the tuesday, it was at allan boons workshop by the thursday, cost about 1k for the intrusions, seatbelts and mirrors, this was done by the following wednesday, then had to get tint taken off and immobiliser put in, it was regod by the friday, so in all less than 2 weeks it was on the road. at the transport department they werent very thorough, maybe due to having a engineers certificate, but all they checked was lights and the height off the ground, and i was told that i had to pay $152 at the pits, but getting it done at boons, an engineer went over it and certified it so it only cost $52 at the pits. car is immaculate and runs like a dream, its a pretty easy process, just have to be a bit patient, the car i got was at the docks for a little over 6 months before it finally got on the ship, the guy that initially bought it was tired of waiting so i took it over when it finally landed. just be careful of quarantine tho, they supposedly went over my car but when i had a decent look at the exterior and under it there was lots of grass and 2 spider eggs, so just make sure you burn anything live so it doesnt get into the environment, the ashtray was also full of some guys cigarette butts!..... also had no problem getting insurance, went with 'just car insurance' only problem with them i found is you can only pay yearly, they dont allow monthly or quartaly payments, but to give and of you an idea, the car is insured for 12k and its 920 a year which isnt too bad i thought Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/56885-anyone-having-problems-importing-there-car/page/2/#findComment-1127101 Share on other sites
