I'm sorry. I don't get it. Why do people advertise plates for insane prices? Do they actually sell or are these guys in some alter-universe where they think there are buyers that pay the same for the plate as they do for a car??

SIKR33 = $4000, offers considered. and so on...

They are always in the SMH Drive section.

There is one in the SAU Classified for $10,000... So you want me to pay 50% more for two sheets of pressed aluminium that I would for a used RB26? :bs!:

Has anyone here at SAU actually purchased plates from someone? Sure, having 96GTR might be nice, but why the huge prices???

If you have bought one or more, I mean no disrespect, I honestly just don't get it.

Mark

Note: I am all for choosing unique plates when you go to the RTA, it's the whole deal of guys trying to sell them for thousands afterwards...

i was offered 5k for my plates- the 2nd nyt i went for a cruize 2 the city wif them on- so there are ppl out there that are willing 2 pay big bucks 4 plates.

5K? Far out. Great price, I hope you took it! :)

I think it'd have to be the highest markup on any product I've ever seen

Out of interest, why did you go for personalised plates? Just tailoring the car to how it suits you? Just seems like a big expense.

nup didnt take the offer lol

jus wanted 2 express my feelings lol

its like getting mags 4 ur car- but u got2 pay yearly lol

2LEB4U

A tip to anyone who has the money

OMG-WTF is not taken in NSW. I was thinking of getting it for the cefiro just for a laugh... till i saw you have to pay every year in NSW... geh

but there are some stupid idiots who pay more for their plate than their car is worth and they think they're blingin..

80-something debaged 318 with tempe tyres "sick" 18" chromes with "URLKN" or "BAMZD" or something stupid... it should be "URLAFN" cos those guys make me feel better whenever i see them... sigh i love it how theres always someone dumber than you out there :P

I have put my number plate Which is three letters only and guess what they are??

Its R34

Custom Yellow

and i've put it for 10K and i believe its worth that because you are driving a R34 GTR worth 120K and some 6 letter customised plate ...and some1 is driving a R34 GTR worth 80,000 or GTT worth 40K and has this customised plate R34 that will definitely complete your car...Doesn't matter how much you spend on engine and mod's ...may be 25K ..its better get a number plate like that which completes your car ....

Any1 interested in buying the number plate please PM me...

Ok I can see why someone would buy 350ZED. That'd be ok, for the right price. But the funniest thing I read in an ad was "genuine buyers only!"

Nice. WARNING: NUMBER PLATE TEST PILOTS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED :tool:

I paid $1945 for my Qld Plates "SLIDE" bought them new at PPQ

true it could have bought me an intercooler or computer but now i have street cred everyone knows me cause of the plates and the car has a name to live upto.

Qld plates are better quality being fully enclosed much more professional looking and you only pay once.

Just my 2 cents

I've never bothered with personal plates, the way I figure they just don't make your car go any faster. I do however have to invest in a set of black and white slimlines rather than the chunky old school plates I've got now.

The thing that gets me is you have to pay a fee just to chose ANY number now in NSW, even just letter letter letter, nyumber number number. RTA told me all I can do to aviod any fee is get my current plate made into a new one. Stupid RTA.

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia.
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
