Dunno if this is the right section but here we go anyway.

Last night OzGTR97-02-02(09-01)V(Vii) mentioned what a pain in the arse it is to check you timing cos of all yobits that you have to take off and I said there is a loop up near the firewall that you hook your timing light up to but of course when I went to find it to show him I couldn't.

Well here it is in the pic. It's the blue wire not the yellow one ok.

It would be just as easy to use A Spark plug lead and coil number 1 !!

The whole point of this thread is to save that kind of effort.  It's one wire just sitting there as opposed to taking the valley cover off, unbolting the coils, etc, etc, etc....

The trouble is the pictures is so dark its impossible for some one who has never done timing before to figure out which wire it is !

But apart from that, it’s a good thread. I’m just giving a 2nd way to do the timing as well. Better to have 2 options then one.

Have you had success with those loops?

My Rb20 is great and its loop works fine.

But the Rb25 on the R33 has similar wires exposed in the harness and they don't do anything, just sent the timing light crazy.

We tried heaps of different timing lights and the dyno bloke warned us we'd have to remove the plug cover and get at the plug harness. He was right.

The blue loop wire at the back works fine for me - using a $50 timing light from Autobarn!

My problem is knowing exactly which marker to use as 15° ??? They are all white markings except for one red one I think at the end - right hand side...are the markers in 5° increments?

Yes they are 5 degree increments .

Some timing lights will work on the loop some won't .
