SA bulk buy for carbon fibre / fibre glass bonnets.

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have an update regarding prices.

Fibre glass bonnets: $595.00 delivered.

Carbon fibre bonnets: $1020.00 delivered.

To qualify for these prices, we will need to have five people interested. If we can pull ten or more people together, then the prices should fall further. From the research I have conducted, $595.00 for a delivered vented fibre glass bonnet seems very good, especially as freight is usually over $100.00.

The supplier can apparently get cheaper bonnets also, but he does not recommend them as the quality is fairly shit.

I still need to confirm styles, etc. But there should be a fair variety to choose from.

So, who's in?

osaka_boy who is in the process of becoming a paid sponsor of the forum, has already organised a group buy for carbon bonnets for $850. You can just add your orders to it before the 13th of Dec.

Until he puts up a thread on SAU (once his donation is sorted out) here's the thread he has running on nissansilvia.com

http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...showtopic=65270

The thing is though, the cfb that osaka boy can get are only oem variants, if you came with vents then thats a different story - which i cannot see mentioned in his post. Personally, i would like my bonnet vented like the ones from autosports/carmate or the one skylineee has. Also, surely the price can go down a little bit futher - maybe/yes?

I agree, I am after a particular type of bonnet. Further, I want a fibre glass bonnet for the reasons mentioned in an above post. So, I will be continuing with this bulk order, assuming I can get the numbers together.

Re. price, that's what being offered and I don't think it's too bad, considering freight, etc. If we can get more than five people interested, then yeah, I can't see a further reduction in price being a problem.

autObarn sell the bonnet for $750.00 and Viva Garage sell it for $700.00, just to put things into perspective.

If I can't get the numbers together, I'll just buy one. Hopefully we will be able to get at least five people together in the next week or so though...

For those of you who want carbon fibre over fibre glass, keep in mind that osaka_boy's $850.00 price tag is EXCLUSIVE of freight, meaning the bulk buy prices all are pretty much on par. But, as said above, I prefer the non-OEM look. Plus, if we can get ten or more orders together, prices should come down. Oh, and keep in mind that the other bonnets won't be available until mid-Febuary.

No disrespect to a Skylines Australia sponsor, just not my cup of tea.

he has vented and non vented, but only the CF, he said the regular fibreglass is possible but more expensive than locally sold alternatives.

Shipping is $95 and the bonnets are $850. Still works out cheaper.

if people want fibre glass only... i can ask if they can make it at a cheaper price as well

Sorry buddy, but I am not a fan of your vent layout and I would like to have my bonnet this year.

I'm happy for you to run a group buy for your product, but please start another thread.

Edit: That said, if you can offer a fibre glass bonnet that looks like the bonnet in my above post, and you can offer a better price than what is quoted above, and you can do so in a short time frame, then I am all ears.

what finish does the fibreglass bonnet come in? Will it be matt and ready to paint directly, or will it have a 'fake' cf veneer so it looks like a cf bonnet? What guarantees do we have about quality/returns etc? I am interested pending the answers to the question :)

The fibre glass bonnets will most likely be white or light grey and they will come ready to paint - if they had a single layer of carbon fibre on them, they would be selling for $1000.00 plus. I plan to give mine a light sand and spray it matte black from a $10.00 spray can. I helped a friend of mine do this to a fibre glass bonnet he bought for his 180SX and it looks shit hot.

Regarding guarantees etc, I can't offer any. I am only a buyer like you. As I said above, I have dealt with this supplier before but I have not seen his bonnets in the flesh. The way I see it, if the bonnets are crap, we can put them on eBay and probably return a profit.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
