i have a kakimoto stainless exhaust cat back, and it is surposed to keep the DB level of the exhaust down by 7DB i read. it came on the car from japan. its on an R33 GTST. it has a nice note and sound but its quiet enough to keep the cops off your ass for noise polution.

1300 is way too much money to spend on a cat back, i would not buy one at all.

instead i would buy a xforce stainless steel turbo back exhaust system. u can get them for 950 (not delievered, add about 70 i think for delivery)) including hi flo cat and muffler with adjustable silencer.

I agree

I got one of those xforce turbo back systems from ebay about 6 months ago. Full stainless for about 1000 delivered. great note and easy to fit.

hey is the adjustable part of the muffler removable altogether?

is there a big difference in noise/performance when u open/close it?

The adjustable part can be removed easily with an alan key - one screw.

As soon as I received the system I removed the silencer and have never driven with it on so I couldnt tell you from experience.

I reckon you would notice a slight difference in performance as the end piece would be more restricted.

It sounds great especially with the hks pod at the front.

The exhaust on my '33 has a blended dumppipe (seperate wastegate pipe, very neat), hi flow 3'' cat, full manderal bent 3''system, 7'' rear muffler ( look sweet) , silver ceramic coated dump and front section down to cat - all done for $1600 at exotic exhausts in Brisbane last november. Drive it in, pick it up in the arvo. Sounds a lot better, and even better, goes better!

Cheers!

Or one better, have a mate whos 4th year sheet metal apprentice and all he charges is the price of the 180degree mandrel bend :headbang: mates rates

I just got my cat back 3" redone alot straighter and removed the resonater for $50 (used the old muffler, which needs to be repacked)

it pulls more at top end, ide say its gained a few kw compared to the last 3" cat back because it was very bendy and had an old rusted resonater

    • Aren't these run off of high voltage in OEM applications? Like 200+V. Or at least 48V in mild hybrids. At ~18,000 BTU ballpark nominal capacity the power draw is at what, 2.2 kW? ~185A is a pretty crazy amount of amps. At 200V it's only 11A. The 70A nominal kits with up to 100A peak draw I see for stuff like classic Porsches have pretty substantial compromises like shutting off at idle and not actually managing to keep the interior cool in hot conditions because they can only output like 6000 BTU. IMO if I had to pick what high amp draw component to retrofit to these cars I would start with the engine fan, not the AC compressor. You need an ~850-1000W brushless fan, something like this: I would love to see the data but I would bet that whatever you save by running the AC compressor in a more efficient regime with an electric motor you're probably losing to conversion losses anyways. It's not really like a clutch fan where you're losing power all the time even when it's nominally disengaged and it gets worse as it engages because the envelope tracking isn't that precise.

    • I'm wondering is the Toyota and Mazda "collaboration" could see that new Toyota ???G20 ??? turbo engine that they have been showing off recently into a future MX5, apparently it's good for 400hp out of the box That could easily, possibly, be much better than the last collaboration between Toyota and Subaru with the boxer engine in the twins
