Hey guys.. need to know more about these engines.. alot different to the trusty old FJ20..

What boost can the engine handle before letting go?

what do you need to do to run more boost?

Running standard computer..

These are the mods.

supra 1j front mount

hks supa dragger exaust 3" mandrell

vl t3 turbo high flowed with t4 front wheel

cold air induction... (yay)

malpassi 2 for one fuel regulator

Can you run 20psi ? 16 ? 25 ?? whats the go ?? when will the RB25 let go if you have the mixtures correct?

It all depends on whya type of turbo you have what afm you are running what ijecotrs what ecu etc. with you cooler and stock turbo 14 psi should plenty with the ceramic turbine if the car is a series 2 make that 12 psi .

bar on a t88 flows heaps more air than a stock turbo.

got to my site I'm doing a series on modding skylines in generall some good reading there to give you an idea.

That's a very good question!

Most failures seem to be linked to sub-systems (fuel pump, tuning issues etc...) rather than simple component failure.

Rather than looking for a boost ceiling I'd prefer to know the HP limits? I know 300rwkw is achievable on standard internals, but for how long? With spot on tuning just how long will it last?

No answers. Just more questions :)

With the way that Denzo's machine is tuned alot of people are pretty sure that that thing will last quite a while with 300rwkw AND Denzo behind the wheel...... But then again, how many people are gonna have the same access to parts & tuning knowledge than Denzo?

ok I just reread the specs on you engine if you are running the stock ecu I would keep it at around 12 till you get some thing tunable boost cut is going to cause issues as well at mixtures they will be way to rich. wonce you have a ecu to do some tuning with your cooler 16-18 psi would be all I would go to the cooler isnt that big although its an upgrade from the stock one.

Ive got a HKS F-CONV here.. which has better maps then standard.. Do you think it would be safe to run 18psi with this computer ?

Another question i have what causes pinging / detonation.

I know a bit about it but quite unsure.. If you keep your mixtures correct does that mean you will be safe? 11.8 is where you want it at? If i get 11.8 at 18 PSI does that mean it is tuned correctly?

My mate has a autronic air fuel ratio meter (one you put up the exaust $2,000 worth) which we will check the ratio... (my autometer air fuel ratio meter says rich all the time so i best check it out properly before cookin my engine)

If i put the malpassi fuel reg on.. the HKS computer and run the car at 18 PSI and its running on 11.8.. does that mean the engine is safe?

Does 11.8 = no detonation ?

Help me out..

Detonation = BAD

BAD = Unhappy skyline owner :D:) :)

the 11.8 ratio will not nessacarily mean no detonation cause you timing could be 40o and you could be runnig 91 octane if you get my drift the a/f ratio mention is a bit on the rich side. and safe.

if you have the a/f ratio it will help you a bit timing should be on 15o to begin with as well and jsut watch every thing a/f ratios timing, fuel pressure etc with good tuning you will make good power but power doesn't always come with boost if you adjust you cam gear you can gain power adjust timing you can gain powerif you lean out the fuel you can gain power ( but risk cooking the motor) so don't just look at boost start at 12 use the fcon and gradually up the boost. but keep checking every thing cause with these cars if they are running rich the timing might get advance or retarded and they same running lean the ecu does lots of interesting stuff and it can all change if you tuned the car on a cool day and you up the boost on a hot day.

A couple of hundred on having a good tuner do your car is much safer than playing your self and being up for 3 k if you cook the motor.

So how do you know when your engine is detonating?

If you have 11.8 afr can the engine still detonate? and why would it ? if it does and you back off the timing would that help?

im guessing that what u want to know is how much can u do without replacing engine internals. i run 1.1bar daily without any ill effects. that is on an internally stock 70000km old engine.

- provided there is no detonation.

- mixture is good to keep the heat down.

- no excessive RPM is used as wear increases dramaticly. keep to the factory 7000rpm limit. and try not to be on it all the time as there is a nice spread of power to use.

stock GTR cast pistons will take 450rwkw. as demonstrated by mario - im not sure how long he ran at this level or what the internals looked like afterwards. im guessing the the rb25 piston may not be as strong.

if your combustion is under control bearings become a concern. 350rwkw can hurt gtr bearings quite quickly.

quite a number of people seem to be running 250rwkw without and drama daily. with careful tuning maybe 300. but dont expect the engine to last forever.
