Go Motec go 6 Ignition coil drivers if you want big power.400rwhp is no problem for Autronic after that you start spending big on ignition and may run into the damaged engines seen in WA.Autronic has only two caps to drive 6 coils in their CDI unit .If your dealer says they can give you big power without the problems Danny and the Wholagan GTR had get it in writing.

Why did you remove the PFC?

The PFC was stolen along with the Z32 afm's, intake filters/piping and fuel pumps (as well a some nice damage to the car) during shipping/storage in Aus. I have a PFC that I can use to get the car running, but I want to go aftermarket as I am chasing big power.

I am leaning towards going for a "plug-in" Autronics. But I will be researching CDI's to see what I come up with. My mechanic is confident about Autronic's support, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for you help. I would like to hear more about the problems associated with Autronics and their CDI's. What alternative can anyone recommend?

I have a PFC that I can use to get the car running, but I want to go aftermarket as I am chasing big power.

I have seen a Power FC equiped R33 GTR run 8's with a Power FC, it makes a little over 1,000 bhp using 2 X Q45 AFM's. It's called V Max if you want to check it out, so don't underestimate the Power FC.:P

Thanks for that, SK. I will consider the PFC, since I already have one, so I might was well use it. :P What is your opinion re CDI's with all three ECU's?

Thanks Roy, will do. However, I think we will be going through a certain workshop in Silverwater.

I keep hearing that, but my mechanic seems to think that he knows the right people when it comes to Autronic's sales and service.

thats correct...if you go to a good dealer you will get all the back-up you need for autronic.

Good one. Autronic are in Melbourne, with the primary support base coming from Ray Hall in Cairns. I'd like to know who the 'head office' in Sydney is, cos it just doesnt exist. Maybe that's the reason it's taking so long!

We never have problems with Autronic. Install it correctly and it works. Dont blame it for other areas of the car being lacklustre or inadequate. There are good dealers out there, and expert tuners. Dont blame the product because it isnt installed right or the shop cant tune it.

I chose the Autronic simply because I got a better deal on it than the Motec. The only thing negative thing to say about the Autronic is the cold start idle. Doesn't handle it very well but on the other hand it may be because we've just relied on a warm engine for driving...

We've recently put a Motec into a R32 GTR and it happily made 535rwkw.

Personally, if I was on a budget, I'd go the Autronic with CDI otherwise if money is of no consequence, run with the Motec.

Leewah do you know Karl Brandon at all?

I know Karl very well. Known him for bout 3 years now. He's help work on my car on numerous occasions and helped out many a late night before AutoSalons getting my car ready.

What Motec set up was used on that R32?

If I'm not mistaken, it was an M800 setup. Came from Japan with a F Con VPro which was quickly replaced with the Motec.

Karl is an absolute Champ. Both He, Nigel and Gerald have helped me out on many an occasion. Combined, their knowledge of cars, engines ect, is pretty impressive.

The MoTec that is used is an M800.

Leewah is correct. The car came with an F-Con V Pro from Japan, which was replaced by the MoTec.

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
