Hey guys, I've just installed a Front Mount on my RB20DET replacing the stock side mount intercooler - Im now wondering if I should adjust my TurboSmart boost controller to compensate for the increased flow of the new intercooler? Is this increase in flow going to over boost the turbo in any way? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't be running to high of a boost level as your turbo will strugle as it has to provide more air to fill the new intercooler.

Your car should run alot smother as it is breathing properly and with cooler intake temps should have a noticable horsepower increase.

I'd run around 12psi. Other wise you'll be overboosting and end up with exhaust wheel in the cat. :D

cameron, there is not an issue of the turbo "having to fill the intercooler". Once it is pressurised the engine still swallows the same amount of air.

The car wont run any smoother than it did before. Why would it?

Scott, generally as you decrease resistance to flow in a turbo system, the boost will run a bit higher. Ideally you need to get it on the dyno and set the boost level whilst monitoring the air/fuel ratios to ensure everything is safe.

Car will run smoother (I'n your own mind of running smoother :D) because it will be able to breath easier. Rather than running 1 bar through a pissie little cooler that doesnt do sh!t. If you get what i mean ?

Yes but running 1 bar of boost pressure through a stock turbo, it will be running out of efficency range wouldn't you think ? To try and keep the pressure up constant at 1 bar it will strugle.

Hey guys,

Just installed the FMIC and it's funny - I was running 12PSI on the stock cooler - didnt change my boost controller or anything and now it seems to be sitting around 10PSI, so if anything I seem to have experienced a pressure drop. I am running my Boost Gauge off the Intake Plenum, I know theres a few place to run the Boost Gauge from, I wonder if the position of the boost gauge has anything to do with my readings?

Anyway, I've got an R33 Turbo to go on it next and then yes, off the the Dyno for a good tune and possibly a re-mapped chip.

BTW my SOP (Seat of the Pants) Dyno is registering a deffinant increase in power especially in 3rd, 4th & 5th. I also fitted some piping to create a Cold Air Induction system so no doubt that is helping it along also.
