Hi guys

Have been informed that the car 'should' be shipped with Kiwi (to Brisbane of course) (was NYK to Sydney) leaving around 20 Dec. To anyone that has used Kiwi, did you have the car complied in Brisbane or your home state? Where do they deliver the car to? A storage yard somewhere?

I imagine you need an agent in Brisbane too.

As trade for this valuable info, I've posted an excerpt from the latest email in the DEH saga. For those CGL-using guys, let's save ourselves $150...

They will truck the car to syd and deliver it where you tell them to. Most people send it straight to the compliance shop that way you dont have to pay for another tow.

It doesnt matter where your agent is they do everything electronically these days.

Thanks Gary, thanks Abflug

Online eh? I guess that's why they also charge for 'Customs Attendance'. I wish I had the time to do it myself. : (

Cheers to you.

Mark

You will notice they will probably charge Customs + AQIS attendence and re-attendance before the bloody thing even arrives. Quite how that works I have NFI.

LW.

yeah, as folk posted above there is no need to have it complied in QLD, in fact I'd go as far to say you are better off having it complied in the state you want to have it registered in (in this case NSW). The car will have to clear customs in brissie however, so I'd suggest using an agent up there. If you want to have the car delivered to your house you can then get temporary rego so you can drive it to the compliance workshop when they're ready to receive it. With a friend of mine we have imported a number of cars that were shipped with kiwi and they were always very good.

Richard

yeah geoff just informed me that my car is booked on the ship to arrive is brissie on jan 14th, Prince No.1 the ship is called i think.

I have already contacted cgl a while ago about being my customs agent and sent through some forms for them, should i continue with them or am i better to use a brisbane agent?

As i have already sent some of the forms through cgl will no doubt charge me for the 'running around' they have done so far.

I think if you have already incurred some charges with CGL, then I would stick with it, proving of course that they can handle AQIS and customs requirements from Sydney (or they have bissie office). If not a brisbane CA may be the way to go.

Mine will be leaving 20th december on the KIWI too, i think its called princess, the shipping company now charges you to deliver it, but they dont deliver it anywhere you want they take the cars to there yard and you have to organise from there, ive got to get mine car carried to Melbourne from brisbane, they never use to charge you but they do now, probaly end up costing bout $600 so i end up loosing my 5% shipping drop after Jan 1st

Are you sure that kiwi are charging for internal AUS freight cause as far as I know (and from looking at their site) their pricing hasn't changed. The price for my GTI-R from Japan to Sydney (via brisbane) is $960. If it's changed then I may consider going for another line that will ship direct to my local port. Not much point going with kiwi line if they want to charge $600 to get from QLD to Sydney.

Richard

FU$K!

I just spoke to Kiwi and you are right, but it's worse than you knew. Not only is the free interstate transport dead and gone, but Kiwi have increased their freight charges to Aus effective from 18 December loading of Prince no 1. It goes from $65 USD per cubic metre to $72 USD!! plus you now have to pay $150 for interstate freight. *** I'm so mad my blood is boiling.

But what can you do?

Richard

I'd rather ship with kiwi, even if it costs a couple a hundred dollars more. i was just reading their website and their shipping fees include insurance with covers theft of parts etc, damage, sinking etc. So i'd rather pay that for piece of mind. No other companies offer insurance as standard. If for example a ship sinks with your cargo on it not only do you lose the cargo but the shipping company may hit you up salvage costs etc. (remember hyundia lost a whole shipoad of cars not long ago, so it does happen)

so i wouldn't complain too much about the extra costs, it's probably worth it.

btw seems everyone has been told their car is on prince no.1 arriving Jan 14th, i've had my car booked on ships since sept, keeps getting bumped off so i'm not holding my breath at the moment, wont get excited till i have the B/L in my hot little hands

you have a good attitude. I need to take deep breaths... Yeah, kiwi is good, still pissed that i'm getting hit with $250 worth of charges that take effect on the very ship my car will be on, and the no home delivery thing sucks too.

Richard

I was told last week that my car has been booked onto the ship leaving 20th december

but I was told that the ship is over booked and we won't know for a little while yet. I am not holding my breath but I am hoping it does make it on. I have booked a drivers training course for the 7-2-05. if it isn't ready for that I'll have to find someone to take my place

so how many guys here are expecting theirs to leave on the 20/12?

ME! ;)

mark

(PS i just want to congradulate ben from jspec for keeping me updated too, I have been a pain in the A#$e but he has responded when I emailed him)

    • OK, that is a helpful description, because that sounds exactly like a bleeding issue in the clutch....these are hard to bleed manually even when the damping loop has been removed. I'd suggest bleeding again....start by filling the master cylinder up and opening the bleed nipple. Come back and check every now and then that the master cylinder is not empty. Let it gravity bleed for a few hours and see if that improves
    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
