Hi guys,

I bought a new Hybrid Intercooler Kit on eBay and its getting shipped to me from Hong Kong.

I received the tracking number and I can see that it took less than a day from Hong Kong to Sydney. The current status is "Shipment is under clearance at customs".

It’s been there for 2 days now.

Does anyone have any experience with similar packages from overseas. I'm interested in how long does it usually take and if there are any fees you have to pay, ie. GST or something. If so, are there any ways to get out of paying the fees or to at least reduce them.

The whole kit cost me $850 including delivery.

Thanx

yeah i got some seats shiped over and they got stuck in customs they cost me a bit to get them out to it depends on how much there worth since mine were worth more then $1,000

witch is a formal clearance so i had to get a customs broker.

have u got a first notice slip that came in the mail?

if so read the back of it an go from there or ring up customs and they will tell u what u have to do.

only items over $1000 need clearance

You should be fine at $850

You will probably get in the mail soon a card. It will tell you goods are the nearest post office where you need to pay 15% duty and 10% gst.

Wow, thats an extra 25% on top. I didn't think it would be that much.

So that works out to be $127.5 duty and  $97.75 GST. Total of $1075.25 for the whole kit delivered. It's still not bad.

The duty (15%) is worked out on the product cost not including the freight

So add the product cost, the 15% duty, then the freight cost and then the 10% GST is calculated on the entire amount.

nedb,

call customs, ask them if its there, ask if u can go pick it up & they'll give u a reference number.

Take a copy of the invoice with u to the customs office at auburn (edit it if you can to under $1000), say its an intercooler for a truck if they want to to charge u duty because its only 5% instead of 15% for a normal vehicle intercooler. The name they have in their books is "truck air charge cooler" which has a by law thingi on it.

Hi guys,

I received a letter from customs yesterday and i spoke to them today. The guy i bought the stuff off ended up putting all the info in so I will have to pay the 15% duty and 10% GST plus some other fees and charges that comes up to $60. All up $250.

I will be receiving the package tomorrow. It took less than 24 hours from HK to Syd and almost a week at the customs.

So the whole Hybrid kit with the piping will cost me $1100 delivered. It's still ok considering some prices around here.

Thanx everyone 4 the info.
