I just had my accessory belts changed and the cooling system flushed and replaced coolant with Nissan Long Life Coolant.

Now when I drive it the car cuts out at random times. Happened 4 times today, once as I was just travelling normally, again when in traffic (on the freeway so in 1st gear), again once stopped at lights after going down freeway and again when turning corner into driveway. So all different conditions.

It used to cut out before when warm and stuck in freeway traffic but hadn't done that for a while.

I can't see how flushing the system and changing coolant could cause this problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Al

Yeah as in stalling and turns off without warning - the revs just die like I turned the key off

It got better today only stalled once on the way to work and twice on the way home.

I am thinking it could be something got wet when they flushed the radiator - would that cause the problem?

I have the factor BOV

Yeah definatly!

My Vl had the same problem - I could never find it and didn't want to spend any money, I just popped the bonnet on a really hot day and left it to dry for a few hours.

Allways did the trick - from working on the cooling system I'd say crank angle sensor maybe?

Worth unplugging everything and giving a spray with crc.

Maybe Air Flow meter plug?

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies and will try that on the weekend (hopefully it will be warm enough)

Stopped the problem on the way to work though just by putting the air-con on to keep the idle revs higher (this was after 3 stalls)

Check the idlin speed of ur car..should idle at 800 revs or so...

if it not then ur idle needs adjustin.

Where does the temperature gauge sit?

Does it idle rough ?

Cant see something wet bein the problem at this stage as the car engine would have dried out by now.

Red Sky,

This exact same thing happened to me in my R31. The sudden change of coolant has caused your system to break down more rapidly than with the water or low quality coolant you had in there.

Get the CO2 Sensor checked, and if its corroded/dirty get it cleaned. Get your water pump checked too. Should fix the problem.

Idle speed appears okay and the temperature gauge is normal.

Will get the O2 sensor, etc checked out though

Thanks again for the suggestions and it gives some things to try.

It hasn't really done it as much this week so maybe it was something that got wet or has just sorted itself out. It didn't like the 40 degree heat today though, nearly cut out a few times but didn't since the air-con was on.

To answer questions, it mainly stalls when slowing down to a stop such as on the freeway, stopping at lights although has done it when turning into my driveway (can't turn the damn thing since power steering disappears !!!)

Haven't done the 100,000kms service yet as only done 77,000kms so far. Getting it serviced by an import specialist next time so will get them to check it all out then.
