Hi everyone,

Just a quick question.

I'm looking at getting a set of Pirelli P Zero Rosso's for my GTS-t (165 rwkw). I want them for hard street driving (no burnouts) as thats what the car is set up for.

Just wondering if anyone has used them and could tell me how long they last and how they perform?

Also if anyone know if Falken Azensis would be a better choice?

Any help on this would be great.

I assume you mean Pirelli P Zero Corse's? They are OK for street but don't grib that much for the expense and are terrible in the wet. No Falkens have ever impressed me in the wet or dry.

If you want excellent performance and at a resonable price, look at Bridgestone RE55s or Dunlop D01J or D02Z. They won't give much more than 10,000-15,000s, but are the best and much of a muchness between the two brands although my preference is the RE55.

The Falken's I'm running seem to be a very good tyre, lots of grip in the wet and dry. I think the RRP on the Falkens is about $750 each for my car though, so they aren't worth spending that much on. Will probably go to Goodyear F1's as the are about the only manufacturer to make a 285/17 and they are supposed to be the best on the market at the moment.

hmm.. I previously had a set of falkens on mine (187rwkw) and they were almost frigging suidicidal....!!

I changed to pretty much the top level of street Yoko's, and I love them, but they're not cheap (245&255x17) - But they are brilliant in the wet, and give oodles of grip :-D

Edit : they're also pretty dammed good on wet/muddy unsealed roads too!

RE55's for strictly road use? Good luck!

i got good year F1's on the front of my 33 at the moment ($250 per tyre)... ive done about 12,000 k's and they seem to be wearing down pretty quick :)

i dont think they'll last more than another 10 000 k's.

is 20 000 k's normal for a set of tyres?

a friend has F1's on his prelude and its lasted him over 60 000 k's

I dont drive hard at all.

All you guys whinging about Falkens, WHICH FARKIN' FALKENS?! Every manufacturer has cheapshit tyres, it's just that Falken's cheapshit ones seem to be cheaper shit than most others (but not all). I can back up what Duncan says about the FK451's, they are excellent in wet or dry. I have silica tyres on my bike which grips really well in the wet and dry, which was my main motivation in also getting silica tyres for my car. The 451's seem to go well with price/performance. There is no way I would buy one of Falken's lower end tyres though, they are definitely cheap and nasty.

Duncan, I've got a feeling that the ST115's wear out quickly because they have those bubbles of Aero bar nothing in them. Their gimmick is to "suck up" road noise with these vacuum bubbles. But surely that just means there is less rubber to wear out.

yeah they did start with a very shallow tread which would not have helped either. But the main disappointment was for something pitched as performance tyres they were terrible ;)

The only problem I've had with FK451 is getting hold of them, always have to order them in. but they do exist

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
