is yours a S1? Are the replacements from a S2? Because the S2 had the ignitors inside the coils, and they won't work if you already have an ignitor pack for your old coils.

yes they have to be in specific order if you leave them on the bracket. but as long as the plugs all match up to corresponding coils then I can't see a problem. Check what Morgs said. Earth is often the problem. Plus check the basics as it may be a coincedence but it might not be anything to do with your coils. might sound funny but it have seen it before. Check to make sure you are getting fuel and spark. Have you got a HEI (High Energy Ignition) tester? if so.....use this to test your spark. If not...go and buy one...they only cost five or ten dollars and it'll show you if you're getting the required spark from the coils.

hey guys.. f**k knows what the go is..

ive put the old (no good coils) back in, and it fires strait up..

try with the new coils. and nothing.

its got me stumped. so the cars still running like shit. and ive got these coils ive just purchased that appear to be no good to me.

they came from a S1, but are defently differant.

My S1.5 (S2 engine) has '533' coils and I have a S2 coil (from a S2 car/engine) that had '6xx'.

Sounds like you have the wrong coils (ie your mates car was a S1.5 with a S2 engine and your car is a S1).

pull off a rubber boot from one of your coils, and one of the purchased coils.

I purchased some that were missing the little spring that sits inside the boot, and the ones I bought had corroded / stained metal.

I cleaned them up with bi-carb soda and steel wool, then put the spring in (dunno if the spring makes a difference) and they worked a lot better.

But from the sounds of it, sounds like u got the wrong coils
