Hi-flow cats are about $500 right ?

Are they really worth the extra free flow ?

What sorta extra power could be expected ?

Im seriously on the market for a dump pipe + front pipe and depending on price/performance a hi-flow cat.

I got my mate to cut some laps in my car tonight in a new built industrial area and got a fat wanger just listening to him go up thru 1st 2nd 3rd, I cant wait to hear it with the front section done (if their is any difference)

:whackit:

Just put my Apexi N1 front pipe in tonight, seems to be boosting a little harder maybe 1-2psi from wat the factory boost guage is tellin me (they innacurate tho from wat i hear) maybe its just the sound.

Nick: might be interested in those plenums, just ordered stage 2 from Japan and it looks good to go once i get the cash together.:D

I asked Silverwater water how much to tune my PFC.

They quoted me $1000 to remove speed limiter, fuel/boost cut etc and a gernaly tidy up fo the maps. Something i imagine they do with their eyes shut.

I understand 6hrs if they were tuning an ECU they had never seen before, also one without base maps.. but this is not the case. I understand they are the experts in this area, but i would love to be able to afford it and watch as they did it. It coudnt take 6 hrs, im sure they would have base maps from other customers cars.

In their defence though, if they do actually spend 6hrs tuning, then it is possible you are going to get a more accurate tune which may result in better fuel economy and sharper throttle response.

Still that a lot of money, do they serve you could drinks and nibbles while you wait for you car to be washed after the ECU tuning?

here I'll knock them for ya Brody.

My friend bought his car through ***** **** ***** - supposed to come with warranty

The turbo had a broken fin and whinned but they said "just get it upgraded and why bother fixing it".

It also came with a gear box that crunched in 4th gear. They fixed it but it was still crunching after they fixed it!!! Again this was supposed to be under warranty!

My friend no longer goes there anymore for any service at all.

How about everyone tell us about actual good experiences at other mechanics, so that we can give good mechanics our valuable custom!

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
