I'm looking at the costs invovled in an RB26DETT engine re-build. The current engine runs fine, but an update wouldn't be a bad thing.

Not including labour, what should i be budgeting for? .....Pistons? Rings? Bearings? Rods? Cams? Water pump?

Where possible I would like to use genuine parts or better for similar cost. Can anyone help with ball part figures?

It's a bit hard to give you a ball park figure if you dont want labour costs included. They are the killer......

I was speaking to two well known reputable people today and the general rule is to budget for about 8k drive in and drive out. Depends on spec but yeah. It's around there.

That all sounds reasonable. My thought was to try and buy some of the parts before, as you say Gav, spread the pain!

So I should be looking at buying pistons, rods, metal head gasket, anything else or major concern?

is replacing the cams and upgrading the water pump a good idea?

I've bought some N1 turbos and will put an oil cooler on it. i will also freshen up the radiator core.

Arias forged pistons ( rings +pins included)=1200 ,nissan about $1000, bearings aftermarket $200-250 for both mains +big ends , nissan add 100 , nissan water pump $150 , oil pump $500 ( nissan ) Don't know about rods ( i wouldn't change change them if o.k. unless you want over 600 h.p.) , nissan full gasket set $300-350 and you may need a couple of seals ( don't come with set ), aftermarket cams depending on what you want $900 + for the 2 ,then you have servicing the cil head , reboring the block , grinding the crank and allow a couple hundred for belts and what ever and thats about it .

Ah and while you have the donk out you may as well do a clutch and while the box is out the synchros and a while the box is stripped repace a few bearings in it or any worn gears .

Synchros + box bearings are cheap labour will not be .

N1 turbos are just right on rb26 ( depending on which n1's you have )

I have them in my r33 and they are fantastic , good response and making over 300 kw @ the wheels with only power f/c , full exhaust and 1.2 bar boost .

you sholdn't need a metal head gasket as the standard nissan unit is quite happy to service 750 hp.

Same with the water pump...as if

And a couple of hundred for belts and whatever else is not enough.

Should always alow 500 for the extra stuff like heater hoses (which you must change if you haven't already)

Genuine R32 GTR water pump is $300+ from Nissan (trade).....I'd like to know where you can get one for $150.

Get the R33 pump. Only two days ago I was quoted $485 for a "genuine R32 R" water pump. I picked an R33 GTR one up brand new the next day for $170.

They have different part numbers but they do fit....

Thanks for the info, I assume the $170 price was over the counter at a Nissan dealer ?? Do you have the PN ??

Must be some difference other than the PN. Interestingly UAS have the genuine N1 water pump also cheaper for the R33 GTR compared with R32

The part number for the N1 water pump for the R33 GTR is 21010-24U27.

I bought mine from Unique in Sydney and it was $195 including delivery to Victoria. I believe they have gone up in price since.

AFAIK, they need to be modified to fit the R32 which is the reason for the price difference.

wrxhoon  - Thats just the kind stuff i wanted to know! Aiming for 300kws with minmal stress on components. Yeah, while its apart I figure do the gearbox and clutch too.

Thanks.

Sorry mate i didn't realise you had r32 gtr , the water pump price was for 33 not sure if you can fit to early rb26 ,they look the same to me ask around .

The prices i told you are from nissan hornsby ( sydney ) or lintof motors ( sydney ) sometimes one is cheaper than the other and of course they are trade prices .

Aftermarket parts , for pistons and bearings try Rocket industries ( sydney ) but again they are trade prices . I'm sure there is some nissan dealers in melbourne and aftermarket parts shops but i live in Sydney so dont know where .

I dont know how much work you do yourself if any . Removing the gearbox when you have the engine out , if you get it done somewhere, shouldn't cost you any extra , i always remove engine + g/box togeter , its easier .

As for rebuilding the box , of course you dont have to if you want to put up with worn synchros , its not going to bust it will keep crunching on quick gearchanges though .

Clutch is a must if you going to put extra power though , i only use a full face single in mine ( its a much heavier pressure plate than stock though ) and it holds very well . I have run 11.7 @ wsid at 121 mph , the car only has n1 turbos ( i rebuild them before puting them on ) , power f/c , ebc @ 1.2 bar and full 3"exhaust , everything else is stock including stock airbox .

The power you want you dont need to change rods or even forged pistons for that matter ( but they are almost the same price ) .

You can get wiseco forgies for under $1 k but i dont like them , ask others that have used them they maybe ok .

Allow $10 000, you will need it.

Trade price for the genuine R33 GTR water pump is $120+change (just got that price from my local Nissan parts guy in the last hour). That's a BIG difference compared with $300 for the R32 type.

I'd REALLY like to know what the differences are between the R32 and R33 GTR pumps......think I'll start another thread.

I was told they were same same. But even so, if they needed to be "modified" to fit, I'm sure it would be minimal.

They look the same...

But yeah, how is the price difference eh?

Better start that thread though just to be 100% sure. I will find out on Monday if my 33 R pump will fit. I'll keep you posted :D

Correct prices have gone up a lot on N1 water pumps. There is a difference in 32 and 33 we mod the R33 N1 to suit R32. There is no N1 pump for R32 and the R32 water pump cost a lot more.
