LOL...you wont go near maxing out 550cc injectors. Unless the thing had a GT30 compressor wheel when it was rebuilt.

Also external gates are cool, but dont mean more power per say, it can if there is a large restriction in the exhaust housing, it can help with stable boost, so can perhaps stop psi from trailing off at high rpm.

Yeah, I don't reckon you'd need more than 550cc injectors on a stockish RB20

I have seen somewhere on the net a RB20, bored and stroked to 2.4L, with a Greddy T88-33D turbo, making near 700PS. It was used in a RWD slick equiped R32 drag car, from memory it ran low 10's. That used 720cc injectors I think, but I may be mistaken

550cc injectors would be the go for a RB20 if you want to make over 280rwkw, up to that I reckon the GTR 440's should be fine. No need for over 700cc injectors unless you are chasing 600+ HP I reckon

Id even say 550s are too big for whats still a street car... My mate has a 1GGTE (2L 6cyl twin cam turbo) he has whats pretty much a t66 on there now, and 550cc injectors which might hit 40% duty cycle on a good day, the thing has about 350rwhp. Different engine, but not that much different.

I was talking to a friend in Japan last week about RB20's and he was at a HKS drag meet last year where an RB20 powered R32GTST did a 9.9 at 139 mph on radials. It was a 2.4 litre with a T51 ball bearing turbo, not drastically lightened, road registered of course. Punch those numbers into the drag calculator and it says 575 to 600 bhp. That's pretty damn impressive.:(

I guessed the last few power figures ie 7,7500 & 7,750rpm so could bve a little less:(

Just trying to get a feel for how they hit boost/drive. Obviously a drive of each others cars woudl highlight strengths/weaknesses...sadly thats not really going to happen.

This is mine from March last year, this is with a HKS 2535 @ 18psi. AFR between 11.4 - 12.0

will attempt GTR cams again in a few weeks and then another tune. we'll see what happens...

Im noticing a comon thing, everyone says the RB20 love revs, but after 6000rpm they die off. Is this because of the cams correct?

Also if its not toooo hard is it posible for everyone to post boost at all those levels, or even just where boost starts, hits on hard, and full boost please?

Edited my earlier post. Yeh RB20s love to rev based on the mechanics/dynamics of the engine based on the stroked, piston/rod weight etc etc.

The airflow, cams etc means that whilst they can rev hard, they do lose some top end power :rofl:

And thise 2535 results look good, i would of perhaps expected a bit more in the way of peak power aroud 5,750-6,000rpm though?

Well i am finally going to rebuild my engine properly. RB2?. will either be a 23 or 24 depends if i can find some RB26 bits in time or not.

will be using tomei pistons and 1.0mm head gasket.

i am about 2 weeks away from that list on my 32

My tip would be to pick up an R32 RB25DE head use turbo valve springs and check the valve seat tension, R32 RB25DE bottom end (r33det if you want the oil squirters) forged pistons and rebuild that.

Possibly even use the GTR Rods and crank in that? 2.6ltr maybe 87mm pistons to bring it out close to 2.7ltrs.

Work out the price for both and decide.

The reason for the R32 RB25DE head is that you are able to use all the stock Rb20DET bits and bolt it on. You will only need the R32 RB25DE inlet manifold (which looks exactly the same as the RB20DET one but internally is larger). Bolt the rb20det plenum on the inlet manifold, use the rb20det center coil cover and you will have a motor that looks identical to a RB20DET.

Unless the head is pulled off the new hybrid rb25 there is no way you can tell it is a 2.5 or 2.6ltr depending on the crank and rods you use.

And remember, when you purchase a new block it has no engine number on it. :cheers:

2. i don't want a RB25 or 25/30

3. RB24 will go harder sound better and cause i just wanna.

You asked I replied....

Why do you worry about being a sheep?

The motor will be more reliable make more power everywhere, the turbo will be pumping cooler air as less boost does = cooler a charge.

If you know how to read compressor maps you will know exactly what I am talking about.

The Rb25 head over the rb20 head requires some where around 5-6psi less boost for the same or similiar airflow.

lol... It makes me laugh when people think doing some thing should be ignored because it would be considered sheepish.

When I built up the RB30 it wasn't to be 'Different' it was because it gave me the driveability characteristics that I wanted, lots of mid range and the potential for awesome top end with a decent set of cams.

The RB20 even with another 300cc's really doesn't float my boat, but then again, I could keep telling my self 'its different' when i'm waiting for that 250rwkw turbo to spool up hit hard and break in to uncontrollable wheelspin at 5000rpm.

Im bringing my car over the first wek of Feb, fingers crossed with a re-tune and new exhaust ill be pushing out close to 240-250rwkws:) Maybe we dont need the 300cc, but hopefully we dont have wild wheelspin either:)...and fingers crossed it lives and the old $600 RB20 provides plenty of fun:)

    • Standard GTRs are boring and there plenty of them, do what ever you want to it and just remember nothing about them is cheap anymore and if you’re picky about how you want things done it gets even worse.    if it’s an n1 or something very limited then maybe care more about it’s heritage 
    • Alright guys, I've got good odds the motor survives due to a majority of spare parts. Who's taking bets on clutch, who's on transmission, and who's go diff? Happy to also take bets on if it still overheats in traffic or not 😛     Car looks amazing by the way. I've never been a fan of R34 rears, so really, I don't think any body kit etc solves that for myself, but the front end looks amazing!
    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car  
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
