my old 32 made 232rwkw stock engine

hks 2530, fcd, cooler, pump, exhaust

the power your after is nothing for a standard internal rb20 most of the guys in this thread a still on stock internals

i've got a very similar setup but am only running around 190rwkw. how much boost did u run to achieve 232rwkw?

Some of you guys have done mods but dont list them all... have any of you guys done over-sized pistons?

...We both agree you need bigger injectors, cams, cam gears and a larger turbo coupled with some form of a standalone or ECU management. The only thing we differ on is that he says I will need over-sized pistons... if not, then I'll need a new block soon after due to the limitations of the stock block. But I dont see anyone doing this.

I am planning to get 300rwhp or 223.88rwkw. It's not quite up with you guys in this thread... but decently good. The following are the mods I have:

RB20DET

Plazmaman intake

stainless steel high mount exhaust mani

t3/t4 (sorry... I bought it and it just came into the shop.. forgot the trim size and all... but power is well enough for 300)

555cc Tomei injectors

JGY Customs RB20DET fuel rail

Sard Type R fuel regulator

Tomei cam gears (256/8.5mm)

Cam gears

HKS SSQV

FMIC

Exhaust (2.5in from turbo the goes to 3in when there's space... right below driver/passenger), no cat

Splitfire coilpacks

GReddy Emanage Ult. using Map sensor

The question is, will I need over-sized pistons? I know location and environment plays a large factor, but theoretically, will I be able to achieve my goal? I'll be posting up my results here in the next couple of months.

For that level of power i think you are perhaps over investing in the engine. Sure, it never hurts to cover as many bases as possible, but for that sort of power the completely std RB20 will walk it in with a decent tune and fuel pump etc

Guys like Legend01, myself, AD4M etc all run completely std motors, though Legend01 had some baby cams with his GT30R. (he now has a stroker RB22, but the engine outlasted the car :ninja: ) The std Rb20 will handle that sort of power without worrying about oversized pistons.

Understand that the pistons will add a few cc of displacement and give you the opportunity to play with compression ratios...so all good things, but worth the expense of stripping down the motor, machining, new head gasket, mod combustion chmabers to suit new larger bore etc etc. Then to only run a small turbo that makes 225rwkws odd. You may as well strap on something like a 2835, 3071R and run 22psi all day everyway and make way more power with the comfort of knowing you have pistons.

I would also quastion how much you get out of the cams on a motor that is making 225rwkws odd. They could work very well, but the std cams have been shown to make good numbers as well. Look at the cam specs of the RB26 and then consider how much smaller the RB20 is and you realise the cams in them arent exactly small to start with.

Also the stock block? I think you will find that using uranium as an octanbe booster and a kpw yield detonator may hurt the turbones of your turbo, perhaps might need higher rate valve springs...but the block will be ok. The things are bvery solid, perhaps the most solid of all RB blocks. The fact they dont make as much power as their larger RB brothers means you will rarely see an RB20 block failure. Of course a rod through the side of the block isnt a sign of a weak block. But seriously, you will reach the limits of injectors, rods, pistons etc before blocks start to crack on you.

yeah, i'm surprised that they didn't even include 1 pic of your ugly mug :(

But plently of pics of the 32 and a pretty big story spanning 5 pages - ya gotta be happy with that :O

you're famous! :D

Im stoked...and no my co-driver is famous and an absolute champ for hooking it all up. Truth is i did fark all and not very deserving of the article...but i loved the coverage of the car, and i intentionally hid from the cameras...you are right about ugly mugs :P

That'd be rite, hit one pole a people never let you forget it .Roy is right alot of money spent without a need I made 230rwkw with just an old style to4 so have a check through the rb20 dyno thread there's a lot of intresting info there for the power level you are wanting

well I wont be able to post here for much longer as I just bought a gtr so Im putting the gtst back to stock to sell and my 300rwkw engine might be up for sale soon or i might keep it and put it in the gtr :-)

Cheers Peter

Got your tube to Interloper...baby steps. Will tack it up using my car then trial fit it to yours

cool, i've got my gtst back from centerline so whenever your ready PM me & we'll set a date

<SNIP>I just bought a gtr so Im putting the gtst back to stock to sell and my 300rwkw engine might be up for sale soon or i might keep it and put it in the gtr :-)

I would pay to see that!!:no:

What do you reckon, ROY?

PS May have those cam specs but book in the GTS4 - will try to get it and check soon.

roy dont know the duration but the lift is 8.2mm...measured mine last time i had the covers off...i would say the duration would be around 250 degree...

So are you saying you have an RB20DET-R. ie the version of the RB20 that Nissan homolgated to go Grp A Touring Car racing? Or is yours just a straight up RB20DET?

I understand the std RB30DET has 240° inlet and exhaust with 7.8mm lift. Rb26 run about 8.2mm lift on their exhausts, cant remember the fronts?

i bought the VL with the motor in it off my mate, the inlet manifold had the rb20det-r badge on it n the turbo on it was a fair size not the normal rb20 one, looked like a t4 i measured the cams to see what was in it n i got 8.2mm lift, n theres no markings on them to tell if there aftermarket

it didnt have the tubular stainless manifold tho just a normal 20/25 cast item so i dunno it could be just from a gts-x

inlet on the gtr is 8.5mm lift i think

rb20 red top has 248 degree 7.8mm lift, silvertop is 240 degree 7.8mm lift

The DET-R badge is pretty cheap to get of Yahoo or other suppliers.

Not saying what you have isnt real or anything like that, but its unknown so it could be anything.

For a definitive answer it would need to come from a GTS-R, with the DET-R IMO.

And there is very limited cars in the country. About 8.

got my braided line and return line made up this morning, weld up my cooler piping an exhaust this weekend should be struggling to idle by end of next week in ready for a full tune. hoping for about 300hp for now will see wat she puts out tho. getting butterflies in my stomach 6 months and shes nearly driveable

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.
    • I hate it, but maybe he could paint it Monster jam style and call it...godzilla?
    • Would seem to me to be appropriate to go GTR style bar. There are options with and without N1 vent holes, with the GTR lower lip integral (because FG copy). https://justjap.com/search?q=r32 bumper
