Thats the one, very happy, hell i even got good fuel economy coming back from PI. I estimate ill get over 400kms from a tank of sedate driving

And how big do you call a tank??? 40L? Or do you run it dry?

If i may.

A tank i would consider something around the area where the empty fuel light would be almost, or just on.

Thats pretty good Troy, i can get about the same or just over 400km if all i do is mostly highway, but thats in a heavier GTS4 so i'm not compliaining

A tank is when the fuel light comes on having filled it up:) From experience i can usually get another 50kms after the light come son, in fear of runing out of gas i have never pushe dit any further.

Though with the std turbo/ECU driving from Sydney to Mudgee and back i did get 610kms before the light come on, i wont try and repeat that with the current setup and tune:)

I only just found this thread so i thought i would post up where my engine is at.

Last dyno run it made 240.6KW at the rears. That was on a max tune with the mods at the time. I have since been upgrading parts and all i need now is a better turbo.

I have been told that 300rwkw should be "a walk in the park" for my engine. So as any logical person would do i am aiming at 350rwkw. I am hoping to have this done before compac attack in April but unfortunatally parts are taking there time to turn up.

I have no 400m times yet as this is my everyday driver and i have not been able to get down to WSID and had the money to not care if it breaks.

The light means 100kms man :( Thats weak :)

So how big is an r32 tank tho? I would have thought with a bigger turbo tho you would be spending less time on boost and therefore saving more petrol?

What motor are u talkin about here?

What sort of mods do you have?

"300rwkw should be "a walk in the park" for my engine "

Man thats a milestone on a RB20.... Thats a Giant leap for mankind !!!

DCIEVE yes it is the one in HPI, when it was featured in hpi it had not been tuned yet but made 220rwkw shortly after, i got the car retuned without any mods and it made 240rwkw. when it made that figure that was as high as it could go as it was being restricted by the injectors and fuel pump (all GTR gear). i am now in the process of replacing these pieces and have just bought a new turbo. i will be getting the car tuned in the next few weeks so i will post up the final readout. If i dont manage to break 320rwkw then i will be getting a nitrous kit to make up the difference.

as for the other modifications this is a short list (you can understand that i do not want to advertise what is under the bonnet for thiefs)

hks 272 cams

tomi 2.3 stroker (apparentally)

hks cam gears

ECCS plenum (changed from NCIS)

i am assuming some head work

mangled exaust (also getting repaired)

i'll see if my scanner is working if it is i'll post up the dyno sheet.

the turbo was a HKS 2535. i think the car used to be a track car thats why there is still a smallish turbo on it... that problem should be solved by monday :( GOT LAG lol

I haven't reached 200rwkw but that it is certainly the next goal in my project...

My RB20DET now looks like this after about 5k

Turbo Back 3" exhaust system (catco muffler & cat)

modyourcar 600x300x76 FMIC

Apexi Power FC

Sard adj Fuel Pressure Regulator

Walbro 550hp 250lph in-tank fuel pump

stock injectors (about 80% duty cycly i think)

stock turbo

With 1.0 bar boost, all this netted me a max of 166.3 rwkw with about 6 other runs between 160 - 166 rwkw. I'll scan the dyno chart up tonight if I can because the power lump below 3.5k is awesome, it's really torquey and just pulls from 3k all the way to 6k - very smooth and very strong. The next item on the shopping list is a GT2530 or similar turbo, so stay tuned...!

no, it has the new head but still has the red cover. i have been asked a few times "is that a CA18?" you just nod your head and agree its jsut easier sometimes.

the turbo is the equivelent to a garrett T61. If the turbo is a hunk of shit i might just get a 3040 or something simmilar.

Well, i refuse to let this thread die, its turning into a bit of a 'Tales of a thrashed RB20DET':)

Tonight went to Calder drags, did 7 passes in total, using 7,800 shift point for all gears on all but the first run where i used 7,000rpm rev limiter. Was running 15 psi and bagged a best run of 12.9 @ 112mph with a 2.2 60ft time.

Did two 114mph runs but 60ft were both in the 2.4sec bracker:( Need to learn how to drive.

So in th epast 3 weeks the car on the same sump of oil did a Sprint day at Phillip Island, Drift afternoon at Calder and drags tonight at Calder...thing is still runing perfectly adn g'box still lives.

The past 3 weeks are restoring my faith in the old RB20s, last year i encountered problems everytime i turned the key.

If ppl are getting the sh1ts with dribble then let me know, and ill stop posting, but i thought some would be interested in reading about an engine that is getting driven regularly at various events... baby steps into how durable these things are...next Saturday Phillip Island again, Sunday Sandown, but before then soem fresh engine, g'box and diff oil:)

    • Been a long while since i have updated this money pit lol.  Have had a few tune related issues with the car, first blowing the frost plug out the back of the head and then blowing the headgasket 3 months later, which has now been retuned and sorted. Done a few little changes along the way as well, i wasn't happy with the wheel and brake setup, so start of last year i managed to get myself a set of r35 brakes and nismo lmgt4 18x10.5 +15 Upgraded to now running a Precision Gen 2 6870 with a 1.15ar, to be honest felt more like a downgrade as the car feels much lazier around town compared to the Gen2 6466 previously. 0761719E-5683-43F7-BD3B-4BD94335DFF4.mov
    • Hi there, i am currently using the Elmers Racing Billet merge collector, we are using sch40 tubing and 1.5" ID, no cracks so far. however if i was to do it again, i would go sch10 with 1.25" runners
    • I haven't touched the turbos so might need to look at that 👍 Appreciated 🙏
    • If you haven't replaced the OEM turbos, replace them sooner than later. I have seen recent pictures of what OEM ceramic turbo failure can do in an RB26 and it will make a 10k AUD budget look like a joke. Single vs twins have been done to death on this forum. If your turbos haven't fallen apart you can probably send yours off to Hypergear for rebuild. The journal bearing option will have more turbo lag but it's a good bit cheaper. I would probably go for ball bearing CHRA but keep in mind ball bearing turbos are more particular about oil pressure/flow.
