Lithium
That post about drags reminds me of a car I tuned a couple of years ago. Ironically despite the fact that I am not a bit fan of R32s or RB20s its so far proven quicker than my owner car and is just an R32 with a stock RB20DET and R32 gearbox running a budget "T3/T4" turbo on stock manifolds, chinese intercooler, basic exhaust etc. The fact that its so fast is probably more attributed to the fact the owner is happy just to pump boost into it and thrash it till it breaks, and it does actually run on E30 - but still pretty impressive. The whole car could be rebuilt for 2/3rds of f'all and ran flat 12s at around 118-119mph with soft launches and shifts due to stock R32 axles and gearbox. Its possibly going to be racing again this season with a little more done to it to try and get 11s Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-5833843 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
Im glad it was a 31 that beat me Damn coil packs packing it in I think I ran a 13.4 or something that night. Was funny getting so many runs that my clutch got so hot and started to slip as well haha ye, you had more MPH/power - i had the better 60ft Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-5834369 Share on other sites
Yts
One bad result doesnt mean the product isnt any good. There could be a few reasons why I didnt yield better results. There is evidence that if i throw my Tomei cams in, the 10cm housing at it that I aill make way more power up top then I ever could with the std plenum...but seems to not be able to match the torque/response of the std plenum. For my car the compromise doesnt seem to have worked out well. I have taken the car down the qtr years ago with about 235rwkws and RE55s. I ran a 12.9 at 114mph with a 2.3 60ft time. I walked the car off the line as I am still running a std RB20 gearbox. That box now has 205,000kms on it so I try to look after it with launches and shifts, it probably had about 180,000kms on it when i ran that time. With a proper go in first and second gear trying to get the 60ft time down to 2.0sec or better then there is a pretty easy low 12 in it. And that time was with this tune... yeh i understand that it, is just always nice to have proven experience, i have hks cams and the 10cm housing as well as it being stroked to 2.2ltr so i am assuming in my case it might make more of a difference, in the end the power side of things isnt really a issue i am quite happy with the current tune and power output as it is used for street duties, it was more of a clear up the engine bay and make it a bit neater with out the cross over piping lol i have got an rb25 box, and the current tune is 270kw, so with semi slicks i guess i should be looking at a low 12 if i take it down the quarter? You've gotta weigh up cost vs gain, the plenum itself + retuning etc is basically RB25 motor money your input as always is valid, but i simply dont want an rb25, i love my rb20, it sounds amazing and no r33 that i have been in even 300kw ones had the same note, the rb25s just seem to rev for ever too, mine just goes through them quick as. now rb26 would be a different story but price wise i will stick to my rb20 until i want to crack 400kw Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-5834831 Share on other sites

Lithium
haha great i love hearing it.. To be fair, mine is capable of going faster more reliably if I were keen to thrash it that hard but drags haven't been a high enough priority to go as hard on it as he did with his. But thats the catch, the price is low enough that breaking something isn't as deterring to him as it is to me, and its quite a fun car. Roy
So thats the TD06 Kris? LOL, it makes more power then mine Got through another track day on the weekend. More 8,000rpm, 19psi goodness. Going to put the car in for a compression test this week and will see how it is all going. Need to spray the engine bay so will see if there is anything the lil 20 needs or whether its worth buying a $400 short motor and throwing something healthy in Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-6088566 Share on other sites

Roy
I had no reason to worry about the condition of the turbo, but like I said...I was just stating that I had not personally ran it so couldnt swear by it being a good thing....but was confident it would be fine. LOL, with the greddy manifold, std inlet plenum yours will be more responsive then mine Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-6090805 Share on other sites

kila32
I just sold my r32 gtst, I was pushing 271 kw at the wheels. Power Fc pro Gtr injectors Walbro fuel pump R33 hi flow turbo with a r32 exhaust housing Plasma man intake manafold Greddy intercooler 3 inch turbo back exhaust. Roy
Do you have any before / after results with the plenum? Also, what were your cam gear settings like with the plenum. Very interested to see some dyno sheets Here is a vid of the latest round of love on the circuit. Kris..
LOL, with the greddy manifold, std inlet plenum yours will be more responsive then mine Yeh it's actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's pretty much the same as the 25/35 I had on before except doesn't drop off in high revs like the other turbo and pulls so much better, deff matches the cams now and they aren't working against each other Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-6091806 Share on other sites

Roy
So, for all us tight ass RB20 owners. Had a few little problems at Phillip Island on the weekend, which compounded some paranoia that perhaps the RB20 was down on power and on the way out. So this afternoon we did a compression test on the engine and a compression test on the cooling system. Cooling system held pressure no problem, and engine results were as follows: Cylinder 1 - 155psi Cylinder 2 - 155psi Cylinder 3 - 150psi Cylinder 4 - 150psi Cylinder 5 - 145psi Cylinder 6 - 150psi So pretty happy with the results considering the engine has done just under 60,000kms. Its done a few drift events, a few drag events, its done 2 Dutton Rallys, probably about 10-15 motorkhana days and its done maybe 20 track days? Hasnt run less then 18psi/235rwkws since about 2005 and often run 21psi and 260-275rwkws. The engine is for the first time starting to breathe, though not badly. The blow-by is hardly anything to panic about as it only 2/3 filled the Greddy catch can after 4 sessions at Winton and 5 sessions at Phillip Island. Many cars fill that catch can to the same extent after one session. So its still well within the limits of acceptable, its just that its blotted its clean no blow-by record. Who needs "crate" motors that cost many thousands of dollars when you can get a "container" engine for a few hundred dollars Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/58229-top-rb20-club-do-you-have-over-260rwkw/page/90/#findComment-6111509 Share on other sites

Roy
Will post up a graph in a few days but looks like when I head to PI in 3 weeks it will be with 306rwkws of TD06-20G powah! Needs 23psi and United E85 to make that power. But still std cams, 6boost exhaust manifold and Plazmaman inlet with std sized throttle body and R34 GTR intercooler. So the only real change has been the corn syrup and leaning on the tune and turbo some more with extra 4psi. Need to really go over the cooling systems before the day and make sure that the oil cooler gets its shrouds back and hook back up my data logger to ensure that I understand what the temps are doing. You'll be surprised at just how cool it will run! The hardest thing ive found is trying to get the thing warm in winter.
