My gf's R33 non turbo's fuel usage seems pretty average. I would of though from a 2.5litre N/A she would get a little better than ~350km per 50 litres... i would of espected closer to 500... i get around 300-350 in my GTR, so surely she should be getting more?

Is it her O2 Sensor? Where is it on the R33 N/A? Anyway to test it... I read a few threads saying if you shake it and it rattles, its dead...

Any feedback? What do other R33 N/A's get to 50L?

Yeah those figures are shocking...I used to get average 9.1L/100k's in the 34..that was an auto too.

The O2 sensor is on the downpipe from the manifold...similar in location to where it is on a turbo...just a little bit further on.

You can easily get to the sensor from the engine bay. It will probably be a 22mm hex size spanner you'll need. Maybe 19mm. Unplug it, unscrew it. It's that simple. You can get another one from ACA, I'll get their number for you.

Don't worry about the location as they have reps going everywhere.

Before you race off and change the 02 sensor though, check to make sure that ALL vacuum lines are hooked up and secure with no splits or cracks in them. Also buy a can of carby clean and clean out the Air flow meter. Do this while it's running. You will have to pick up the revs manually while doing this as it will try to konk out.

Check the fuel filter ***important***

Use the remaining carby clean to spray around all the vacuum lines. If any gets in through a crack or split or hole then your idle will change and you'll have found it.

I can't think of any other things at the moment but they are the basics.

You could also change plugs and stuff but they are a bit fidly. Recommend them though.

I get 9 - 10L / 100k in my GTS25 manual, closer to 10 if I spend a lot of time on the motorway, closer to 9 if spending a lot of time driving round town.

As per other comments check:

- 02 sensor

- AFM

- Plugs

- IACV/AAC valve (do a search if you don't know what this is).

- If you can go to a Nissan dealer and get it checked out with the Consult diagnostics gizmo.

Is it auto or manual? If auto is the 'box changing ok? If manual is the clutch slipping at all?

Spoke to my mechanic yesterday, mention this to him, he recons the o2 sensor will have very little effect... it only fine tunes it, so wouldn't make too much difference... more likely to be the AFM he says...

Its an auto, the box seems fine, its not flaring between gears or anything, drives perfect....

try the AFM if you can get another one to borrow for a while but in the meantime...have you tried cleaning it with some contact cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Sometime that's all it takes. The skyline AFM's have the smallest tolerances. Petroject refuse to fix them for this very reason.

I also get 9 litres per 100km travelled...so roughly 460-80km on a tank...manual turbo 1993 GTST

but i notcied hot days she may drink a little more....i notcied the other week when it was hot i only got 390km out of a tank.

obviously as hot air is less dense and therefore less air molecules for the engine to combust. So more fuel would be dumped into the engine than air..theortically casue of the temperature.......hope it makes sense

    • My understanding is that UV tends to accelerate the aging process. If the car has been garaged, then you could probably get away with extending beyond 10 years. FWIW, in 2015, I had tyres on my 180B SSS that had a 3-digit code (2 for week, 1 for decade), ending in 0, so could have been more than 30 years old, but still worked fine. I did replaced them very quickly, though, once I discovered what the code meant!

    • Nah. For something like boost control I wouldn't start my design with PID. I'd go with something that originates in the fuzzy logic world and use an emergency function or similar concept. PID can and does work, but at its fundamental level it is not suited to quick action. I'd be reasonably sure that the Profecs et al all transitioned to a fuzzy algorithm back in the 90s. Keep in mind also that where and when I have previously talked about using a Profec, I'm usually talking about only doing an open loop system anyway. All this talk of PID and other algorithms only comes into play when you're talking closed loop boost control, and in the context of what the OP needs and wants, we're probably actually in the realm of open loop anyway. Closed loop boost control has always bothered me, because if you sense the process value (ie the boost measurement that you want to control) in the plenum (after the throttle), then boost control to achieve a target is only desirable at WOT. When you are not WOT, you do not want the the boost to be as high as it can be (ie 100% of target). That's why you do not have the throttle at WO. You're attempting to not go as fast as you can. If the process variable is measured upstream of the throttle (ie in an RB26 plenum, or the cold side pipework in others) then yeah, sure, run the boost controller closed loop to hit a target boost there, and then the throttle does what it is supposed to do. Just for utter clarity.... an old Profec B Spec II (or whatever it is called, and I've got one, and I never look at it, so I can't remember!) and similar might have a MAP sensor, and it might show you the actual boost in the plenum (when the MAP sensor is connected to the plenum) but it does not use that value to decide what it is doing to control the boost, except to control the gating effect (where it stops holding the gate closed on the boost ramp). It's not closed loop at all. Once the gate is released, it's just the solenoid flailing away at whatever duty cycle was configured when it was set up. I'm sure that there are many people who do not understand the above points and wonder wtf is going on.
