Hi all.

I have recently (just over a month now) ordered a R33 GTR - and really want a VSpec - purely for the 'worth doing properly' mantra.

Anyway... I want a series 3 in midnight purple and it seems they are a little hard to come by. I am happy to wait for a while - but not forever.

So my question is... should I hang out for a VSpec or widen my search to non-V cars also? The money isn't the issue - it's more of a toss up between 'i want it now' and 'i want it exactly right'

Is the VSpec worth the extra time/trouble?

All thoughts/opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

James W

Doxximus:

Yeah - that's my theory too.

But having just sold the Civic - I'm getting extra edgy :)

Is there much different in a VSpec? I know the suspension is about an inch lower and you get the better dif & ATTESSA-Pro - but how does that translate to day-to-day driving?

Adam:

Hahaha - It's not that money ISN'T an issue - it's just not a "can I afford a VSpec over a standard" kind of issue. Believe me - I'd be on the next plane to Japan to pick up a '34 Nur or a Tommy Kaira Rs if I could :)

I've been saving for the last 4 years to get this car - and you're right. No compromises is the way to go. Was just wondering if it was 'just as good' to get the non-V.

But I think you've helped answer my question. I've waited 4 years - what's another month or so. Problem is - without the Civic, I'm down to the bad-ass Lada as day-to-day transport.

Will keep you posted of progress.

Thanks

whatever you do, dont compromise. if you want a v-spec wait for one. youll be kicking yourself when the week after you buy a non-vspec car, a v-spec comes in...

seeing as money is no object... wanna buy me one too? :) im not greedy... just an R32 GTR will do ;)

but seriously..

i agree with adam... wait for the vspec...

Re: Lada

Hahaha - I think the Nissan will be a smidge different.

When it arrives - will take it and the Niva to get dyno'd together.

Will have to run a comp - what does the Lada run at all 4 wheels?

20, 30, 50kw? :)

Here is pic for you - better find that VSpec soon...'

Re: Lada

Yeah - the crazy cabrio - is very different to say the least :)

The Nivas (4WD) are actually pretty good (for a Lada) - only major probs have been electrical. Will run forever - had it going 3 months with a cracked head gasket. Is pretty fun in summer - pisses all over Vitaris and Sierras.

Is actually getting serviced at the moment - guy is removing some of the flow restrictions of my exhaust (read: catalytic converter) - so even if it doesn't go any better, it will sound cool. Not legal - but who'll ever know that it ever had one :)

Actually quite keen to get it dyno'd.

Factory - the car is 76kw at the flywheel (yes that's seventy-six) ;) I reckon I'll be pushing 30 at all 4 wheels. Nissan should be about 150kw at all 4 stock I think?

We shall see...

hehehe im going for.... 49kw@4w!!

:)

as for the nissan... u should be looking at around 160 to 170kw??

someone who has one jump in...

james is it gonna be stock?? i guess u wont know til he finds one aye lol

Same as everyone else..if you dont wait ur an ass

also i shouldnt be telling you this but if you posted this thread about 1-2 months ago I would have been able to tell you exactly were you could have bought the exact car you are talking about!!!

same color same model same everything however the guy I knew did sell it...:)

I would say it depends on the level of modification. If you are getting one with a big setup then I would not bother to wait for a V-Spec coz all the enhanced components would be better then the V-Spec one anyway.

However if you are getting one that is near standard say exhaust, wheels and the like then go the V-Spec.

James - I've got a Series 3 GTR as we've talked about. Getting a Series 3 GTR in pristine condition is hard work enuf. It took me 3 months with a friend of mine looking every day for me at auctions and yard in Japan. You can also ask Merli as for a while he was looking for a good condition R33 GTR Series 3.... I've also gone with another friend and checked out some 'series 3' that were missing certain things that lead me to believe they were non genuine series 3's or accident repaired.

Keeping this in mind and the fact you want midnight purple quite a rare colour. AND you want a V-spec... you're not gonna be waiting a while. You may have to wait forever..... honestly dude I'm not trying to discourage you... I'm jsut letting you know the facts...

The fact is only 1200 Series 3 Vspecs were made ALL UP. I'd say midnight purple would AT MOST account for 1/5... there are a few series 3 purples around that I've seen but to get one of like 200 or so IN THE WORLD you'd be pretty damn lucky....

To me it was more important to get a car in good condition... its really good that you can afford to get a series 3 GTR. If I were in your position I would just try and find a REALLY good conditin Series 3...... this may take you a while in itself :D Also in my opinion V-spec wo't give you a HUGE edge unless you race hard and race frequently.
