Places not to leave your skylines...

Recommended Posts

I don't leave anything in the car if I can help it.. having an empty car deters thieves, also leaving the ash tray open with no change in it helps... not always enough though.

Know plenty of people who still leave lots of coins & valuables in the car..

Had the Gazelle broken into at Thornbury station..

neighbour also had his car vandalised there...

Saw a car parked at crown casino... he had hit the parked car in front of him and left it like that.. (how's your driving f00l?).. both cars were pretty nice.. probably drunk & drugged and didnt even realise.

Had a car stolen from under the bridge on king st at probably 3amish.. (next to aquarium).. joy ride, smashed up & dumped.. same car was broken into 3 weeks earlier on queen st & lonsdale.. parked in the middle of the road on a busy saturday night.. cops actually caught him in the act.

I found out after the car was stolen that the bridge is really bad for theft.. people come out of clubs, have no money left for a cab and so steal a car to drive home in..

Oh and on my street, theres been at least 2 instances of a car being put up on bricks and wheels stolen.. (that I know of).

Oh and of course there was the "die you yuppie scum" spraypainted on the bonnet of a boring ford.. just off gertrude in collingwood next to the dept of housing blocks... hate to think what they'd do to a decent car parked there..

... anywhere near a trolley bay at Knox City Shopping Centre!!! :D  :cuss:

grrr....last time i got back to my car at knox, some little sh!ts were there with there grotty little hands all over it. :uzi:

Trolley bays at Knox...wish people would freakin use them or maybe trolleys should be banned period!

no where is bloody safe to park these days. Dickheads aren't confined to specific areas, they are everywhere. You just gotta try and park sensibly. ie.. lots of people around and well lit.

Hi QWAK...it was good to meet you at the barbie...:P

although i agree with you, i still believe there are certain spots that are targeted more by thieves than other places...for example Dandenong is meant to be the worst area for thefts, especially around xmas time, but as you said gotto be very careful anywhere you park nowdays....

now thats a blatant business plug if ever i saw one..LOL:D dandy is a hole as far as im concerned, i hate driving and parkin there. any place can be a bad spot at the wrong time. i avoid parking in the dark corners far away from the entrances, as close to the shop as possible, and next to a nicer car as i call it "insurance" so i can avoid door dents cause people with nicer cars tend to respect other cars also the thieves would rather have a look at their car than my shitbox r33 in comparison:D:D

In plain sight or not, they aren't exactly the sort of things you should be leaving in your car.... regardless of where the car is parked.

Cop said the same thing :P

It was silly but I had planned to visit my cousins bar (Cape Lounge) just after opening a few years back for a few drinks and got a bit carried away with the free booze and was only sporting my shorts and a singlet so left phone, wallet in glove box for the night while I went out and got tanked (no pockets)... next morning I go to collect car and my window is smashed and shit is everywhere. I parked opposite Sambuca Bar so I thought it would be sweet as so many ppl and lights in that area. My bad... once again.

Southland shopping centre in Cheltenham apparently ahs one of the highest car theft rates in Vic. The worst area is in the far corner by the train line and Bay Rd, it's quite isolated with no through traffic, avoid it people.

what do you guys think about south morang, mill park.. around that area?

I know Preston is like #2 or 3 on the highest theft rates (so we won't be moving there!).. but we're thinking of moving further north... too many units springing up around here & bringing dodgy people with them..

Kaz... Ask Skylinegeoff, he lives in south morang. I dont think it's any better up north. Don't u just hate dodgy thieving C*NTS.. they're everywhere...

As for where not to leave your car... where CAN u leave it these days? there are jealous fu(ks everywhere who take pleasure in damaging another person's property- no respect! I'd definitely say Chadstone SC carpark, never leave your car parked there for more than an hour... and ALWAYS park nearby to an entrance with lots of people and light.. try not to go at night. lol geez... how fu(ked is that, u can't even go shopping without being worried about your car! :(

Awesome, cheap (6pack) local mechanic

Well it will be good to move in somewhere with a dbl or even triple lockup garage, too expensive around here for a big house though.

Haven't felt safe leaving the car at a shopping centre for a long time, although I don't think it will be stolen, but keyed/reversed into/runaway trolleys.. see it all the time. The other day I saw 2" between two front bumpers. Maybe not even that much room... Unbelievable. You'd think they'd at least notice and reverse a bit before leaving their car vulnerable to another protective car owner..

another hot spot is the Vic market which is notorious for car thefts, as well as crown car park although i must admit guilt for sometimes parking there for convinience...

is crown carpark not good to park at?? I thought it was one of the only places safe to park :( If u cant park there where CAN u park???

I parked at a coles carpark and had a crack in my front bar when I returned. I always brace myself for a new crack or scratch or key mark whenever I return to my car from anywhere.

Hampton Park is also a dodgy area... had my system stolen from there from a mates driveway at 7pm. :(:thumbsup:

I shouldn't have read this thread... I'm all scared to leave my car now :)

I am scared too..... they are all the places i park.......

1. used to go to monash

2. do christmas shopping at chadstone

3. "secure parking in the city".......

my addition to the list:

Box Hill, near the station.... got badged (rear)

Balwyn in the middle of suburbia... got badged (front)

i blame school holidays and a lack of vigilance on my behalf.... ah well from now on i sleep in my car :D

My place is great! I'm ten minutes from civilization and have had one trespasser on our property... ever... in over 60,000 years of humans in oz, only one unwanted person has been on our property... and there wasn't anything valuable taken

Feel free to park your cars at my place... although for most of you it will be at least 3 hours out of the way... each way.

Factually though... Greensborough, Richmond and then Broadmeadows are the three worst vic suburbs for car theft in general

    • That's the thing. Especially at idle, changing the cam angle by that much could be spewing more fuel out the exhaust courtesy of everything happening that bit later. More fuel also means more air (if the fuel didn't burn, then neither did the O2) and so the O2 sensors can start to tell interesting but misleading stories. And the specifics of what is happening could easily be affected by everything else you changed as well. And it could be dynamic, where a few revs more or less could somewhat change how the engine is breathing.
    • Good idea on the temp probe. The mv readings of the O2 sensors are very similar to one another, as is the injector pw. I went through logs in the past to see if there was a discrepancy and there is. Because they alternate up and down as narrowbands do.. they do often 'switch' as to which one is more. They were never 20%+ (more like 1-2%) so it's possible the difference between 20 and 15-17% is a similar discrepancy to 2.0% and 1.7% which I wouldn't have really noticed in the past. We did think about spacing the strut brace. Unfortunately the ~20mm that the GTR brace is lower than the GTT brace is effectively what you need to clear the vents. Moving it up would make it very uncomfortable, but it's plausible that 10mm is a unhappy medium between both hard places... The good news is.. using MR HAMMER it was actually pretty easy to bend back the bent bits to make sure the guard and headlight/new headlight tabs line up right. Yes, we used a R34 GTR guard to make sure the bolt holes all lined up with a known straight guard. As above, you can see the side skirt and the GTR guard are not meant to play together, but everyone seems to think this is a simple fix to the point where nobody who has had these talk to one another mentions how... ...so I'll just assume they know how to fix it when it comes to paint jail time again. Whoever they are. Nobody returns my calls. There's so much changed with regard to the ECU and the car.. that the next step really is to connect the scanner and attempt to drive the thing. It'll be pretty clear pretty fast how in or out everything actually is...
    • That's nasty! I think there is perhaps an inherent problem is using elastomers in such environments. The whole thing can and will get quite hot, and elastomers are not famous for their temperature resistance. On top of that, if the components are cast rubber or urethane and so on, there might be QA/QC problems with bubbles or voids in the material that could critically change their performance. They might just tear apart after being squished (presuming that any elastomers are used in compression rather than tension, I'm thinking that you squeeze one with a void in it and it tears the wall of the void to the outer edge of block, then the next time it extends or otherwise twists, it just gives up). This is all purely hypothetical, but it makes me wonder if the things that they have put into it to make it nice to use/live with are perhaps going to cause occasional failures like this. I wouldn't be getting up in arms over it, unless there are many repeats. I have personally ruined an Xtreme clutch - just an HD thing. I can't remember if it was still behind the 20 or was after the 25 went in. But it inverted some of the retaining spring/clip things around the outside. No-one could explain it. It wasn't thrashed, there wasn't heaps of torque being put through it, and there were no obvious problems other than the above. They were quite concerned by the event so they replaced it even though it was a few years old, which was very nice of them. As far as I am concerned, these things happen with clutches.
    • Any damage to the box/input shaft?
    • Hey there Mate , I just got my local guy to install it Waterhouse Performance, Penrith (specialise Nissan/Datsun and other performance cars) , you can do it yourself if you like , AMS has instructions on their website.  Cheers Pac
