Media Release – December 15, 2004

Drag Combat is back for 2005!

Following a great season of high-revving, turbo-charged drag racing action in 2004, Drag Combat is set to continue in 2005 with three dates:

April 2 – Willowbank Raceway, Queensland (April 3 rain date)

April 23 – Quit Motorplex, Western Australia (April 24 rain date)

May 29 – Western Sydney International Dragway, NSW (June 5 rain date)

The 2004 season provided many positive and exciting moments for Drag Combat including some of the quickest and fastest quarter-mile times for ‘sport compact’ vehicles, world records and national television coverage on Fox Sports and Speedweek. These factors helped take the scene to a new level.

2005 will again feature plenty of belching fireworks from the ‘Pro’ racers, as well as hot import street cars, fast motorcycles and hi-tech, late model Ford’s and Holden’s.

Rest assured it doesn’t end there. There will be plenty of new and exciting improvements in 2005. This can only mean faster action on the quarter-mile from the competitors and a better show for the fans.

Oh No .... with yourself two of my mates with big singles and Stacey we already have double the GTR’ s planning on racing compared to last year hahaha will be good to see more then 2 racing

I guess with all the ‘sport compact’ talk they will be racing under those rules this year

It will be heaps good to see a dozen or more quick GTR's at WSID. I think that Johnnie B has a soft spot for GTR's. Maybe we could see something in the future @ this event that features GTR's. He and we all know that our brand of car is a DC crowd favourite. Maybe a crowd draw card could be a battle between GTR 700, the HKS car and some other invited 8 second Jap car. Then, a battle between all the other big OZ cars Theo, Kier etc. Then down the line from there, finishing with a battle for the quickest street registered (no nos, no slicks, etc).

I think this would be heaps good. Probably just dreaming, but I do lov the sound of something like this, and I think it would work for both, the Drag Combat event and us (IMHO). Would make the event unique with a special feature like this. I also think that the GTR is the only type of car that could pull this type of thing off (if you know what I mean).

Any thoughts comments ppl?

BTW, I will not be racing :boohoo: , its Pauls turn this year. It's only fair, on him and the car! STACE

Kenny - Yes I'll be racing @ WSID and I'm gonna try and wait for the pretty green one :(

It certainly looks like we'll be racing under S.C. rules and regs but I guess we'll wait and see.

I think the idea of an international GTR showdown would be HUGE! Think of how popular the HKS GTR was when it was at QLD Jamboree?!?!!?!? w00t !!!

Ooh, I so want a piece of you this time! ;-)

Are you sure Adrian, i heard Jim Read had politely told Jamboree, Supernats and Drag Combat they were not welcome at WSID any more.......

This is going to be awesome :P:D I cant wait to get the 260SX out on a properly prepped track :) :) :D

Absolutely positive mate. After very positive meetings with the new CEO of WSID (i.e. not Jim Read), the Sydney event is just as locked in as it can be :P

As for telling major event promoters that they weren't welcome any more, this is either a case of;

1/ Someone telling stories for stories sake

2/ Jim's ENOURMOUS ego getting in the way of common reason and logic

or

3/ One FORMER CEO cracking the shits at John Bareman AND Ray Box AND Ahmed for giving him 10's of thousands of dollars. Not likely.

Adrian

I could have sworn i read somewhere in Fast Fours mag that the Jamobree wasnt confirmed yet.... i had heard rumours of the cancelations and just put the two together... i know they have also been clamping down really hard on the use of the track so thought it might be true.... obviously not.......

I cant wait, i am sure that the track will be primed and ready for racing and i for one cant wait to get out and have another go with hopes of running some better times :P:D:)

if anything some of the promoters should be telling WSID to jam it.....! At supernats WSID didnt even do a crowd count or collect tickets or do reciepts, how many people do you reckon were paying straight into Jims back pocket???? I know Ahmed is pretty upset they told him only 11,000 people came through the gate, when every year previous has been over 20,000......

Oh and drag combat will be good maybe i will bring my GTR as well hopefully it will be finished by then considering i was aiming for supernats 2004!! hahaha
