We bought an R32 in Qld the other day. It was recently complied under the 15 year rule and registered in Qld for a month. The Qld owner deregoed it after he delivered it to our NSW address

We took it to an auvis inspection station for a blueslip but were told that even though the car has been complied and registered previously in Qld that it can't be registered in NSW because the engineer that complied the car isn't an approved engineering signatory in NSW so they don't recognise the mod plate or the engineering certificate. They want us to take it to a NSW engineer and pay $?00s

For another piece of paper.

Is there any way around this? Failing that does anyone have a list of approved NSW engineering signatories?

Register it in QLD again and drive in NSW?

How's that going to work, what happens when he has to change the rego over?

It may be painful, but could well be true. Who is telling you this? a RWC place or NSW transport?

If everything is up to scratch, getting another engineer to check it over should only cost $200 or something. May be the only way to do it.

Unfortunetly what you have been told is spot on.........only accredited NSW engineers reports will be accepted.

SOME requirements are slightly different in NSW so as a worst case scenario count on possibly having to do one or two things.

Other than that it is simply a matter of having a NSW engineer check the vehicle and write a several page report that you will pay through the nose for. I have been through this exact process when i sold an RX7 to someone in Lismore........But I covered the cost rather than leaving it to the new owner.

Good luck with it all.......I can't imagine you will have to many drama's with it.

gtr goes well ..had a fair bit of stuff i didn`t know about...blittz bov ,pods ,pipe and computer has been modded..tein coilovers,tein adj castor rods ,cusco upper control arms...handles great..even with space saver sparewheel....hit 120 in second gear on gateway and remembered front had spare on :Oops:

The bloke at the blueslip station rang the local engineer about the child restraint requirements.

The car has had some fitted left, right and centre. They are nuts welded to a plate (apparently a Merc part) that are rivetted under the parcel shelf behind the rear speakers.

The NSW engineer said because the car was complied as a 5 seater, he would only pass them if they were mounted on a bar that was mounted above the parcel shelf. uggh!

I've seen a lot of R32s and I've never seen this long bar.

My other R32 was complied under the old scheme and it had child restraint anchors mounted on small metal bridges over each speaker and the bolt went through the speaker grille. It didn't have a centre anchor, probably because it was complied as a 4 seater.

Back then I checked the relevant ADRs on their website and the formula they use to position the anchor points meant they had to go in the speaker so I suppose the engineer is making sure it complies 100% to the ADR.

How come other engineers can pass these anchors in different positions?

Should I try and find a NSW engineer who will pass it 'as is', get the bar fitted or is there another way?

Are Southside in Sydney? If so, and I need to take the car to them that's a 1600km round trailer job.

I understand that this engineer is just covering his ar$e by complying with the ADRs 100% but I don't know how much discretion they are allowed to bend the rules to keep things simple. After all these guys are supposed to have the knowledge to say whether something is safe or not.

Does any one know of an engineer that lives in the real world somewhere south of the Goldcoast?

I had my car engineered by "Phil Scott" engineering, he is in Grafton NSW. And i found him to be reasonable and not too expensive. Im not sure how close that is for you though.

I only had mods engineered on my car, i didnt have it complied by him. But give him a ring and see what he can do for you if your interested.

    • Next pic will probably bring back Charlie's PTSD So yes, pump is back out. I hooked the fuel return up to a hose into a container to flush out the first litre or 2, jumped the Fuel Pump relay and.......nothing.... Turns out the pump I had pulled out, checked, cleaned everything....was dead.  I hadn't actually hooked 12v to it to check it worked before I put it back in. Anyway...Neil had kept the old pump which still worked, so I just swapped it back in. All good, flushed the lines out, ready to start
    • OK....so something that works like it said on the tin! Fitting the pressure feed into the car was an absolute PITA because the oil filter is in the standard location and then there is a fitting to run to the oil cooler. On the other side between the filter and the steering box is the standard oil pressure sender (not working for some reason, something to check) and 2 tapped 1/8 BSP threads for the oil temp and pressure gauges. Unfortunately it is really tight in there and it took a hours of stuffing around to get a t fitting to connect the priming pump and retain the gauge sender.  Also, the Aeroflow sump has some massive drain plug (needs a 32mm spanner) so I couldn't use the regular fitting there either. In any case....once it was all hooked up, like magic priming.mp4 15 sec, 3 bar of oil pressure. Left it running a couple of minutes to push through everything, looked good   
    • Yeah the latest style kit has been trouble free, I've done a fair few klm on it including pushing a bit on low fuel and it hasn't been surging (that's not an endorsement for race use, I haven't tried that low, or that hard cornering!). For street use it has been a good thing, handles the high current OK, only real issue is it is not cheap
    • So, how do you feel about the Frenchys surge tank setup @Duncan? Have you had a chance to try it out more? The sketchy wiring in my fuel pump setup has decided to melt and die and I'm looking for a solid replacement now. My fuel hat is toast so the Frenchys kits providing it all look promising.
    • Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha.  Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult
