Snowman
I must say I thought it was great fun. I actually really enjoy these fun days. I think the extra cars make for a little more excitement. If the track was empty and there was no timing it would get rather dull. Or maybe Im just an idiot! LOL. But I had some good little battles in my rex with firstly Golgo, a little race prepped Mirage, then trying to keep Scotsman at bay. And dispite not being the fastest car out there the little rex sure gave it heaps through the S's. Seeing the death of the RB20 special was very very sad. I sure hope it's just a 2004 thing rather than a Vic thing for you mate and next year you will come back and knock em dead. Leewah
Overall besides Troy's incident, a great day! The cruise up was nice and comfortable with our convoy of Liners, WRXs and the lonsome S14. So much for the 23 degree day with showers developing... The day itself was filled with excitement. Thanks so much to James and Golgo for putting up with my antics. All I can say is 3rd gear was a bad idea into the >90 degree corner. Lucky there weren't any walls there. Golgo does like spitting fire though (not Troy's kind). Nice drive home and an early night. Definately what I needed. ferni
Nice one... sorry to hear about the car Troy No luck at all hey Al: Don't worry to much about the understeer, i had the same thing at Winton, but it was fine at PI... too many sharp corners at Winton... INASNT
FOR SALE:( Damn, i cant believe something happened to ur car again!! Could you see flames coming out of the bonnet when driving or just smoke? Roy
Forget all these JAP/German tossers who tested the R32/22/34 GTRs at the Ring...Nissan should fly out a V35 GTR for me to test at Vic tracks. If the car makes it home in one piece then its got to be a good thing. No visible flames, just smoke. It sucks cause the car was going real well, earleir it blew an intercooler hose, found two others that were loose:( , then 2nd time out the car was going real well although with the track temp being what it was after 2-3 laps the tyres were past there best but was all fun while it lasted. And thanks to Jack for the tow, Geoff for the garage space, and Leewah for the lift. Did anyone have a vid camera / pics of the fire:) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/59070-winton-the-aftermath/page/2/#findComment-1129355 Share on other sites

RBN1
is that a volvo hassling the z? haha you're probably right. That was me in my mates Z that I borrowed for the weekend. It had re-mould tyres and a leaking brake master cylinder which didn't help things. In a straight line on the GTR's a couple of modded rexs could out power it but soon as it came to the corners I was in big trouble. A very scary car to drive on the track. btw I think that pic was taken just after I had been black flagged for coming off twice in one session Nice car but definately not a Skyline! Scotsman
That's one of my mates in the Volvo behind you. He took me for a spin and I was very suprised at its hadling and braking characteristics. He scared the crap out of me breaking at about 80m into the flip flop. (last corner) Volvo certainly have done their research on brakes. It also had RE55's and Av-Gas with 20degrees advanced timing. Was interesting. It's no Skyline, but interesting 80's technology. Bec
Great weekend guys - although I have just managed to stumble into work @ 11.30 - a few hours late but oh well....... we really need to rethink our drinking habits before track days. Firstly - THANKS JAMES - your are a legend for letting me take Golgo around the track - i loved it, although will admit that I need more practice (hahaha)but hey at least I didnt hit anything or fall off the track (cough cough Leewah!) Troy - at least I got to take it for a spin before it died - bring on the RB26!!! Cheers guys - bring pics/footage on Tuesday night Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/59070-winton-the-aftermath/page/2/#findComment-1129485 Share on other sites

Volvo brakes are quite a popular upgrade on various hot 4s etc aren't they? While it may have been quite entertaining, one must beg the question "WHY??" Bec
Oh yeah - one thing I forgot Andrew - thanks for scaring the crap out of me a couple of times in the Rex - although we did overtake James so mission accomplished BUT - make a mental note - when your doing 160+ down the straight into the flip flop at Winton - the last thing a girl wants to hear just before the corner is "brakes....brakes.....where are my brakes???" Ant97GTR
Hey all, Just wanted to added that I had an awesome time at winton on Sun. While not great for good lap times, the extra traffic forced me to scan for overtaking spots and to maintain speed thru the corners.......I felt like I was in a race! Not only that but it made for some great incar vid footage As per Al's post you have to be real careful of other drivers and despite the ol'rule of don't overtake round a corner I had some d*$khead in a wrx make up 5 car lengths in my breaking zone only to go round the corner RIGHT NEXT TO ME. To all the SAU crew, thanks for the good company in between sessions, and a big thank you to all the ladies there on the day for keeping my wife company she enjoyed it so much she might actually come to the next one!
