I was reading an article today that said Nissan Australia has registered the trademark "Infiniti GT-R".

Has anyone else heard this? is it WTY or WTLW?

Article is mainly about the probabiltiy of it going to the USA as it will be produced in LHD form (apparently Ghosn himself said this???). It also maintains the engine will be a VQxxDETT probably a 30 or even a 32. Says it's the same engine being used in the 350z JTC cars???

ATTESSA will be present as will round tail lights.

I can see the Infiniti brand being used in the USA but it's interesting to hear that it may be introduced in Oz. I guess Nissan want to take on Toyota/Lexus.

Yeah, I think on Performance Forums a guy posted up the site where the Infinity name was registered in AU... why would they do that if there was absolutely no possibility of the next GT-R being imported to AU? Anyones guess, but this is pretty old news, at least 6 - 8 months old.

Skyline GT-R has been a registered trademark of Nissan in Australia since 1990, so I'm guessing they didn't have to re-register it. I think they're just covering their bases.

I did a search with the united states patent and trademark office and found the following results of interest:

you can search yourself here: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=logi...nglish&p_d=trmk

NISSAN GTR

Filed on March 12, 2002

(APPLICANT) NISSAN JIDOSHA KABUSHIKI KAISHA TA Nissan Motor Co., Ltd

Why would nissan file for "nissan GTR" in the US in 2002?

they also filed for an extension on 08-10-2004

I found another request also made on March 12 2002 for "nissan GTR" in australia

http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/atmoss/...m_number=905985

However what puzzles me is that in australia they also registered "Infiniti GTR"

http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/atmoss/..._number=1005792

and the UK

http://webdb1.patent.gov.uk/RightSite/form...himnum=E3875507

but not in the US?

On a side note "infiniti R spec" is filed by nissan on DEC 10, 2002 meaning that we can expect the R SPEC parts talked about in the 2001 press release quoted below.

NISMO branded parts will cover three areas - NISMO Performance Parts, designed for Nissan vehicles; Infiniti R-Spec performance parts designed for Infiniti vehicles; and NISMO racing parts designed for off-road/race-track use. NISMO also will offer performance parts for current and previous model Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Sentra SE-R and the forthcoming Infinti G35 and Nissan 350Z.

most likley just a safe guard so no little smart arse goes and takes the rights to the name from them, not a bad idea if you wanted to make a little cash when nissan did release that model??

well all it sya is Nissan GTR no model is specified so it could apply to any nissan GTR, I don't think anyone could register the name and get away with it look at www.nissan.com they sued that guy, so I'm sure if anyone tried to steal the name they could have some kind of legal action against them.
