they sell these everywhere ... are there no car audio places in newcastle?? or any car accessory place at all?? ... well anyways this is the player that i want too but i'm short on cash right now ... it should cost you about 7-800 bucks cash. Also jvc are good ... as i've had a good look at comparing mp3 head units ... if ur on a budget get a jvc, if u've got a bit more cash got with pioneer ... like you said ... they just look heaps better ... and if you're bill gates ... got with the top of the line pioneer ... that one just rocks man!!! :P like you can download ur own animations onto the OLED ... thats just better than any other rice you can buy!!!

Hippy,

I have been to a few audio places here in newcastle about a month ago and they didn't have them.

Hmmm might have to go look again.

On a us website they had them on special for $229us

thats still cheaper than 700-800 bucks

i'll have more of a look around,

if that is the price then i might go with a jvc as they do the same thing its just the look and i dont think i want to pay that much xtra for "the look"

thanks all

Go to JB Hi-fi in Church St Parramatta

I too have had Pioneer decks and am very happy with them and have invested in an MP3 playing deck. It cost be $1100 but I'm glad.

There is a Sony deck around for under $500 i think but I don't know what it's like.

Be warned, they do cost a bit, but if you're an audiophile like myself, and would otherwise be considering a stacker, save the money you would spend on a stacker & get an MP3 playing deck - hours & hours of music on there & so easy to change!!

Man that is weird

I went to JB Hi in newcastle about 2 months ago now and asked them what mp3 players they had for sale, a guy there told me that they only had jvc and kenwood mp3 decks. I specifically asked at the time about if they were going to get other brands such as pioneer and he said that they would probably come out in the new year.

obviously had no idea

Since they are there now I might have to go back for a look. Wonder how much for the baseline pioneer mp3 deck?

Gtst4g: what brand mp3 deck u get ?

Woohoo i made it through the registration, fantastic,

What up peepls.

Hey listen I just bought a JVC MP3 unit. it has been fitted in the car for about 36 hours now and it is quite nice. It has really good specs for the price I paid. I paid $440 but the retail i think is $510 or $500. It has 3 preouts, and remembers exactly what the alst mp3 played was, so you dont have to start all the way from the top. When you switch to radio then the antenna goes up, when you go back to cd then antenna goes down, which I know some of the more expensive decks do not do.

I love it. I wish I had forked out for the next one up in the range which is the top i am sure and it is like $700, has a similar display to the pioneer i am pretty sure. just looks a bit better.

But for the MONEY it is tops, and if you are running a semi decent amp/sub setup it should pass through just fine.

Just my opinion though!!. I am stoked, been reading these forums for about a week and now that the car is licenced I am finally registered. Used the wrong handle though, doh!!

peace

The expensive units don't have the antenna function because they are designed for the US. In the US, your head unit can pick up information about road conditions etc that is broadcast on the radio. Thus the antenna needs to be up to pick this up. However in Australia we do not have this function from our radio stations.

On mu Alpine HU i put a manual switch in it that puts the antenna up or down.

my antenna output also switches on the rear amp, so having the aerial down when playing a CD would also turn my amp off....

that's ghey.

unless there's a seperate amp on/off wire to trigger them :(

ive got one of those pioneer oel decks. they're sick. people hop in your car and are like... "are u serious... there are friggen dolphins swimming through the water.."

... and mine about 2 years old. its extremely reliable and looks rediculously kewl... so i;d recommend getting a pioneer oel deck . ie that mp3 one.

specII i know of the one u are talking about ... and i agree that its ace especially for the price ... and also the next model up with the oled display is also cool ... even better cause its got more funcitons i think ... but i still like the pioneer just cause i think it looks cooler ... either way u can't go wrong .. :(

my series 2 r33 has an antenna switch (but my antenna doesn't work properly!)

i split the blue remote lead from the head unit into the antenna trigger lead (or whatever u call it), and also ran another wire to the amp in the boot from this same lead

that way the switch will only switch off the antenna

i dunno if u have this switch but it is just a suggestion

I have read on this and other posts about an antenna switch on the series 2 R33 - where is this switch and what does the button look like as I can't find one on mine and my antenna doesn't go up when the radio is on

Cheers, Al

    • Hi all   what short shifter do you use on your skykine r34?   my synchronous does have a problem and i was getting huge delay and grinding sound between 2nd and 3rd, did put shockproof red heavy stuff and it is great now/ no issues   would in your view short shifter screw this up?   people seems to suggest/ use cube short shifter and there is standard and premium. Seen review of premium as much better and less play. Thoughts?
    • Yeah, there's a bit of a density and friability difference between pebbles and any of those other things. Silicone will definitely float in oil and so will be mobile enough to move around. Although, again, if it is upstream of the filter it really shouldn't go any further. I would only ever worry about silicone when it is in places downstream of the filter. Upstream of the pickup is a whole 'nother matter. We've all seen what that does. I have seen the most abominable crap settled out in industrial gearboxes, trunnion lube systems and the like, without any sign that any of it has touched anything in the machine. Just chilling in the bottom, waiting for the inevitable operator error that causes the whole machine to need to be dismantled for repairs.
    • I have seen enough fire and brimstone from TSBs about roloc disks causing spun bearings that foreign object contamination is top of mind for me. For sufficiently large particles you might be right but usually it’s a distribution of debris and some of the larger particles can also break down and shed bits. If local shops report RTV contamination in a turbo is enough to wreck them I’m taking zero chances if I can help it.
