removing springs

I find that the top bolt on the susp unit is very tight.

What is the best tool to use to hold that little rod? An adjustible spanner just seems to strip it.

Can anyone give me some good tips on removing it?

use a small shifter on the very top little thing then use a ring spanner for the actaully nut. it is hard but is alot easier with two people. also use silcone spray or wd40 to lube it up a bit too.

yeah, grabbing that little flat bit on the bolt is my main concern. An adjustible wrench is just stripping it. WHat is a small shifter?

Adjustable wrench = shifter (dear me!!)

Try grabbing it with Vice Grips (NOT multi-grips)

In regards to mulgrips, I went to bunnings and asked this guy what tool I should use. He was a so called "mechanic" and he reckoned I should use mul grips. I bought em, and I was just thinking wtf? this is going to strip it to the shithous (I tried it on somehting else first).

use a small open spanner... that would be better

Yep I snapped one too, it's a real mission after that!

I would definately let some WD40 (or some other lube) soak in a bit first.
