Mixed feelings about taking the lines to the Nats so you may/maynot see a few in the carparks. I understand MYSHY32 is in the Horsepower Hereo's and his car will be on show Saturday in the middle of the track?

MMmmmm...I'm in two minds as well.Ppl are starting to appreciate what a 'Line is,but there's still enough idiots there praying to the V8 altar that may just stuff it up for one or all of us SAU'ers.Plus,as Terminal has mentioned in Veilside's post ( http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=60157 ) :the RTA or whatever they are called in Canberra will be out in full swing.I'm not too panicked about my car-almost all of it is legal or legally enginnered-but why give 'em the fuel to start the fire? They may not notice the LJ Torana with the home fitted Chev' 400 small block, but oh-so-subtle cars like Sinista.Veilside R33 and so on may not be so fortunate...

Im in two minds about imports entering summernats. On one hand its great to see imports being entered, but on the other hand, the show is about V8's and should maybe be kept to that genre... *shrug* whatever works.

Also, can I mooch yet another seat on Friday night? :) A friend Michael wouldnt mind coming along, he loves GTR's, and a few of you (Richard + Jayce) met him last week on NYE.

Michael, yeah. Is it Groove.com or something like that?

Off Topic -

Trident and a few of the lads from Wagga n Albury are trying to organise a bash somewhere in the country in the first qtr 05. Sort of Skyline cruise to the country 'rural liners' and then o'night party. I asked Michael and his connections may be able to help us out for DJ/Music.

TURNS OUT IM A FREAKING RETARD!!!!!!! (no great surprise to some)

i completely forgot to tell the hellenic i was unavailable this week, im going to completely miss the nats, (working all day friday and sat) i'll be late to dinner but i'll be there by 8, and i might ask if i can get off a little earlier and be there by 7, either way someone save me a kickass seat lol.

i think i might go to the Nats on sunday, so if your interested Nik, im keen for the horsepower finals and the rest of sundays entertainment.

Hmmmm...an interesting one, this question is! :( On one hand is usually attached a mobile phone...err.Start again:on one hand,I'm all for seeing a 'Line beat a V8 to pulp, but on the other hand,I love the noise of a blown Chev' at full noise...I guess,as Auto Salon is all about imports, the 'Nats should be about the 8's.It's a different crowd, fair enough, but you occasionally get someone who wanders into Natex/EPIC,who owns an import that may well love a 57 Chevrolet or a twin tubo'd VY HSV as well. Then again, not often do you see a *insert name of undesireable city/suburb HERE* bogan wander into Auto Salon or the Jamboree looking forward to the experience...ah well,I'm in the same boat as Nik:

How 'bout Al?

if we didn't just spend 22,000 on new furniture for the new house we would come down and occupy a table, but the DIRTbank is feelin' the pinch.

Just logged on, sorry for the delay. :(

Yeah I’m in! :(

May also bring a mate.

I personally appreciate a whole range of cars. B4 deciding on buying the 'line (a decision I have no regrets about :D) I was seriously considering buying a XM coupe and installing a modern XR8 motor into it. I still belong to another club that is primarily Fords, Holdens and old muscle cars. I enjoy and appreciate the differences and work put into these cars, almost as much as killing 'em down the 1/4 mile or race track ;). My mate has spent well over $35k restoring and modifying his '74 Ford XA coupe, but also drives a Suzuki Cupacino as his daily car. What I am trying to state is that people can enjoy and appreciate all types/makes of cars.

Hi Wayne - welcome mate. :) We'll catch u in Braddon perhaps and wave you down. If we organise a meet we will post on this site.

    • @joshuaho96 Hmm considering the drama you've seen/experienced, have you looked into getting a built complete long motor shipped from Australia?  Considering the AUD is basically monopoly money when compared to the USD, at a glance this seems like a good option?
    • Bloody Skylines, they put you through the bloody wringer! Stick at it! Stunning drag strip BTW! Where is it? Can see part of the name on the slip and probably should just Google it!
    • I mean the other day I had to walk someone through diagnosing why their timing belt was walking off the cam gears. At least one of the issues was a bent tensioner stud. Local mechanics have found runout on the CAS mechanism causing weird failures. I'm also no saint here I've documented some of the things I've had to learn the hard way. Something I discovered recently is that my CA emissions catalytic converters weren't even welded correctly to align the downpipe to the main cat and they tossed the support bracket that goes from the transfer case to the downpipe to support everything there. I spend a lot of time chasing down these decidedly unsexy problems and the net effect is it feels like I never actually get to the original objective (flex fuel, VCAM, oil control, cooling, etc).
    • At times with how you make everything sound, all I imagine Americans doing when they see a gtr is standing there looking at it and bashing it with a gun like how a caveman would with a club and hoping it fixes itself
    • I think this is just a product of how the US market works for this stuff. Shops are expensive and there's no real way of knowing what kind of results you're going to get, people don't really have the institutional knowledge. I have heard too much at this point to really put faith in anybody "full service" except maybe DSport and they aren't really a full service kind of shop. If you go to the right place I have no doubt they'll get it right for you. Some locals have set it up right but the cost really is nuts and even now they're still fighting issues. And you know I'm a crazy person who thinks things like twin scroll, relatively short low-mount cast headers, PCV recirc to intake, recirculating BOV, right-sized for ~400 whp, MAF load, validating all of that to a standard comparable to OEM test programs, etc are relevant. For what it's worth, multiple local owners at this point have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of blowing a motor -> getting someone to rebuild it -> some missed detail causes the bearings to wipe and spin just outside of break-in mileage or drop valves or some other catastrophe -> cycle repeats. I usually only find out about this because I'm perpetually helping random friends with diagnosing car troubles, Skyline or otherwise. The single turbo stuff if I'm honest is mostly secondary, it just doesn't seem to achieve the numbers in the ~2000-3000 rpm region that I would expect given the results I've seen here or in Motive's videos. I don't really know what we're missing here in the US to be causing this. Lots of people like to emphasize the necessity of finishing the project first and foremost, but I'm not made of money and I can't afford to be trashing a 15k+ USD engine build with any regularity. Or spending my relatively limited garage time these days unable to triangulate problems because too much was changed all at once. Also, even if it isn't a catastrophic failure I would consider spending the cost of single turbo conversion with nothing to show for it to be pretty bad.
